AP Physics 1 Tutor • +8 Subjects
I graduated with a Masters of Education from Keene State College. Before immigrating to the USA from South Africa I graduated from Natal University (BSc) and University of Cape Town (HDE). I hold a New Hampshire science teacher certification and have been a public school teacher and tutor for many years. Science and math are my specialty areas but I am particularly passionate about chemistry. Many students find chemistry difficult but after guidance to approach problems and learning how chemistry really works my students master the subject and feel a real sense of achievement. Tutoring sessions must incorporate different learning styles and a variety of teaching strategies to meet students' unique needs, as well as make the content relevant to their lives. It is my desire to create an atmosphere where students can meet their full potential, become independent learners and can share their ideas and take risks. I believe that the teacher's role is to act as a guide giving students access to practice skills, and have choices to let their curiosity direct their learning. The students should be active learners and I will guide them to learn how to problem solve, use their creativity and apply concepts at high-order thinking levels. In my spare time I enjoy reading, hiking, gardening and creative crafts.

6th Grade AP Language Composition Tutor • +46 Subjects
I am a Virginia state-licensed English teacher with thirteen years of experience in classroom teaching and online tutoring. I have worked with elementary through college-aged students, at remedial to advanced levels. I have a B.A. in English, Linguistics, and Speech from the University of Mary Washington(2006) and an M.A.Ed. in Secondary English Education from the College of William and Mary(2009). I tutor math and history, but my primary focus is on English Language Arts--the subject about which I am the most passionate. I believe that everyone is entitled to the best education possible, but also that education is not one-size-fits-all. I therefore employ a wide range of instructional methods, understanding that a strategy that works well for one person might not work for someone else. I make it a priority to listen closely to my students in order to find the best tools for them. My goal is not only to help them improve academically, but to help increase their self-confidence as well. Outside of teaching, I enjoy writing my own fiction, baking, and spending time outdoors.

Since a young age, I have always been passionate about sharing what I have learned with others. I have experience in teaching and tutoring in social work field education to Master's level students. The subjects range from social work ethics, LMSW test prep, case management, social justice policy and psychology 101. All subjects are my favorite to teach. In 2020, I graduated from the University of Louisville with my Master's of Science in Social Work with a Specialization in Military Social Work. In college, I showed an interest in these particular subjects, since I knew that I would be applying what I have learned in my future career as a social worker. While in college, I have learned that everyone has their own way of learning and processing knowledge. I work with all four different types of learning styles: visual, auditory, kinetic, and reading/writing. I make learning fun and interesting by giving examples of how to apply what is learned to real life. Cramming or rushing to learn a subject is not always wise. You will feel motivated to learn when you have someone who will work with you at your own pace, I am great at doing that! Outside of academia, I love to read, travel when I can, and most importantly spending time with my loved ones and pets.
