I am a recent college graduate from Columbia University with a lot of experience in research and writing. My major was Human Rights and I am passionate about the issues that I engage with. I received my associate's degree from Bergen Community College in 2014 and my Bachelors from Columbia in 2017. At Bergen Community, I worked in the tutoring center focusing on assisting students with writing in any subject. I also tutor English and the SAT.

I am a graduate of Cambridge College in June 2012. I received a Master's in Special Education K-12. I lived in Italy prior to graduating college. A Senior Chief needed a tutor for her son who was struggling. I tutored the young man in reading and math. While my degree is for kindergarten through 12th grade, I enjoy working with kindergarten through 4th grade. I am passionate about reading, writing and math in grades kindergarten to 3rd. I believe education is a necessity for an improved quality of life and try to incorporate daily life within lessons.
I am available to help students with any topics they are struggling with in their high school or early college-level Physics courses.
I am a recent cum laude graduate of the University of Amsterdam's Masters in Economics Program where I specialized in Monetary Policy and Banking. While there, I worked as a teaching assistant and tutored in economics and mathematics. Prior to that, I worked as an ESL teacher for two years in Russia and China.
I'm a graduate of the School of Engineering at Virginia Commonwealth University (2015). I have a Bachelor's of Science degree in Biomedical Engineering, and am pursuing a Masters Degree in Business Administration from the VCU School of Business. I've been a mentor for the past four years and am very active in my method of tutoring. I have helped several students with official tests and homework assignments.
I am very excited to have the chance to work with students preparing for the PSAT, the SAT, or the LSAT! While I'm originally from Connecticut, I attended college and law school in Buffalo, New York. While there, I worked for a test prep agency helping students prepare for the SAT and the LSAT. In 2003, I moved to Richmond. I worked with the Virginia Department of Taxation for 7 years doing policy work and assisting with the legislative process. In 2011, I began working for Bryant and Stratton College, where I taught students in the Paralegal Studies program. I loved helping my students prepare for new careers. I can't wait to work with you and help you succeed as well!
I am a graduate of Brigham Young University, where I received my Bachelor of Arts in International Relations with an emphasis in Middle Eastern Studies and Arabic. As part of my coursework, I studied Arabic for three years and spent a semester in Amman, Jordan. After graduating, I worked on a U.S. Senate campaign, then interned at a think tank and congressional office in Washington, DC. While at the think tank, I co-authored an article that was published in US News and World Report. I am currently pursuing my juris doctorate (JD) at the University of Georgia School of Law.
I am currently a second year law student at Harvard Law School. I am passionate about public interest law, particularly immigration and criminal defense.
I am a graduate of Yale University, where I majored in Global Affairs. After graduation, I spent one year at a liberal arts college in Singapore, where I worked in the writing center and mentored students extensively in academic writing. Since then, I have been traveling, while continuing to tutor writing skills online. I emphasize learning how to write a clear, organized, and persuasive argument supported by solid evidence. In addition, I have experience tutoring students one-on-one with academic subjects and test prep. I enjoy helping my students discover the patterns behind the problems in standardized tests, especially in the SAT and LSAT. I believe in a personalized approach, and I love seeing students gain mastery and understanding of these skills. Next Fall I will be attending law school.
I am often asked by friends to help them with their math homework. I have spent countless hours teaching calculus to engineering, computer science, physics, and economics majors. Being one of seven children, I have been helping my sibling with math for as long as I can remember. I believe that a solid understanding of mathematics is crucial to success, and the demand for people with quantitative skills is only growing.
I am currently working on my Doctor of Pharmacy Degree from Virginia Commonwealth University, where I attained my undergraduate degree in Biochemistry. VCU is where I have held bioinorganic research positions as well as teaching positions. I acted as a teaching assistant in various chemistry and biology classes while studying and am currently an adjunct faculty teaching chemistry courses for the university. In addition to Varsity Tutors, I tutor for PCG education where I prepare students at J L Francis Elemetnary School for their mathematics SOLs. Throughout my different experiences with teaching and tutoring, I have found that each individual requires a different teaching style. Adjusting styles to accommodate different learning styles can be difficult at start, but overtime it helps the success of students to achieve their goals.
I am most interested in improving the critical thinking and critical writing skills of students who will comprise the next generation of college graduates and working professionals. The ability to express oneself clearly through writing is an invaluable skill both within academia and the professional workforce. I believe it is my job to provide students with the necessary preparation and skills they will need to succeed in a college environment and beyond. When I am not tutoring, I enjoy reading fiction (with a special soft spot for sci-fi/fantasy), running and training for my next marathon, and experimenting with new recipes in my kitchen.

Whether your student attends a school in Norfolk Public Schools, charter schools, or private institutions, we match them with tutors who understand the local curriculum standards and can support their specific academic needs.
Tutors working with Norfolk students are familiar with Virginia's SOL requirements and design personalized instruction around the specific standards your student needs to master. This targeted approach helps students build the foundational skills tested on SOL exams while deepening their understanding of core subjects like math, English, science, and social studies.
Norfolk students commonly seek tutoring in math (especially algebra and geometry), English/language arts, science, and test preparation for SOL exams and the SAT/ACT. We also support students in advanced subjects like AP courses, foreign languages, and specialized test prep to help them stay competitive academically.
Your first session is an opportunity for the tutor and student to get to know each other and identify specific learning goals. The tutor will assess your student's current level, discuss challenges they're facing, and create a personalized plan tailored to their needs—whether that's catching up in a subject, preparing for an exam, or getting ahead in their coursework.
With Norfolk's average student-teacher ratio of 13.3:1, many students benefit from one-on-one attention that addresses their individual learning style and pace. Personalized tutoring fills that gap by providing dedicated time for your student to ask questions, work through difficult concepts, and receive immediate feedback—something that's harder to get in a classroom setting.
Pricing varies based on the subject, tutor expertise, and frequency of sessions—we work with families to find options that fit their budget. To get started, you'll connect with our team to discuss your student's needs, and we'll match them with an experienced tutor in Norfolk who's the right fit. Most families schedule an initial session within days of connecting.
Tutors connected through Varsity Tutors are experienced educators and subject matter experts who understand Virginia's curriculum standards and have a track record of helping students succeed. Each tutor is vetted for expertise in their subject area and ability to work effectively with students at various levels, from struggling learners to advanced students.
Many Norfolk students see noticeable improvement within 4-6 weeks of consistent tutoring, though the timeline depends on the student's starting point and how frequently they meet with their tutor. The key is regular, focused sessions combined with practice between meetings—personalized instruction works best when it's sustained and reinforced over time.
