About Me
I am a PhD student studying marine biology at Stony Brook University, where I study how plankton (very small animals in the ocean) move around and catch food. Before coming to graduate school, I did my undergraduate degree in Biology at Tufts University in Medford/Somerville, MA. My hobbies include knitting, running, and, of course, reading! Another one of my long-term interests is education. I worked with preschoolers for a full year in college through an AmeriCorps literacy program in low-income preschools. Later, I worked as a teaching assistant for five semesters (three as an undergraduate, and two as a graduate student), teaching biology, chemistry, and environmental science. Most recently, I worked at a local tutoring center with students ages 7-16, tutoring reading/writing, English, and math. I have also worked with several high school and undergraduate student research volunteers in the lab. My favorite subjects are math and science, but I also love reading, writing, and French! I spent five months living in France during my undergraduate degree, and I speak near-fluent French. I love working with kids and young adults, and I'd be happy to work with you to develop study strategies and learn new things!
