About Me

I graduated from the University of Georgia with a Bachelor's degree in Early Childhood Education with a specific emphasis in mathematics and technology. Afterwards, I graduated from the University of Maryland with a Master's degree in Curriculum and Instruction focusing on Art Education. I have attended the Institute for Reading in NYC at Teacher's College where I gained valuable experience in working with and inspiring beginning readers. I have been an elementary classroom teacher for 4 years, working in Kindergarten and fourth grade. I have worked with a variety of students in these settings, moving them through grade-level goals in reading, writing, math, social studies, and science. I am able to tutor in reading, phonics, writing, mathematics, grammar and mechanics, and study skills because of my specific training and experience. I have worked with students with special needs in the past and would welcome the opportunity to tutor any students that have special needs. I probably enjoy helping students with reading and writing the most, simply because success and confidence in these subjects help students perform better in all areas of school. When I tutor, I am patient and work to build knowledge from the student's current understanding of the subject. I know students need their confidence built and do not need further frustration. My aim is to make tutoring sessions fun and productive so students leave with a more positive feeling about their knowledge of the topics we covered. When I am not tutoring or teaching, I love to play with my cats, draw, bake, and listen to music.
