I am currently a fourth year medical student in Indianapolis. I completed my undergraduate education at Indiana University Bloomington, where I majored in Biology and Spanish. I also completed two minors in Mathematics and Chemistry. While at IU, I worked for the Department of Mathematics and Department of Spanish. I also worked as a Peer Tutor for the IU Athletics Department, tutoring in several subjects including statistics, chemistry, physics, and Spanish. I graduated from college with a 4.0, and I entered medical school shortly thereafter. Since coming to medical school, I have excelled in all of my pre-clinical coursework, and I currently rank in the Top 20% of my class. I feel very comfortable and confident tutoring other students in a variety of subjects from math and science to Spanish. I like to think that the same techniques I have used to excel in all phases of my education can be easily adapted to other students and help you achieve your academic goals, just as I have! I'm a non-traditional teacher, probably because I was a non-traditional student. I have ADHD and always have, so I don't always approach education from a traditional perspective. I worked for the Florida Marlins and the Miami Heat before moving back to Michigan and opening a golf shop. When I had kids, I realized it was important to be that I be involved in education, in no small part because I wanted to make sure the school wasn't as awful for my kids as it was for me.

I am a mentor because I wish for others to have the same opportunity for motivation and success as I had from my teachers in high school. My mentoring experience has been primarily in three different areas. First, I have had direct involvement mentoring middle school students in mathematics through my local dentist's office. From there, I quickly learned that no experience is quite as unique or as rewarding as seeing a child have that light bulb moment when they finally understand a difficult problem or concept. Additionally, the lesson does not stop with just academics either. I have found that, in developing relationships with these students, I got to better understand them as people and adjust my methods accordingly. My second experience mentoring comes directly from teaching English to children of all ages in Oudong, Cambodia. Due to my limited understanding of the local language and teaching multiple levels of English at once, I was compelled to be creative to ensure all of my students understood our lessons. I developed lesson plans around the curriculum that featured games, singing, and dancing, finding alternative methods of expressing meaning to be very important in learning difficult concepts. This has had important ramifications for my style of mentoring; creativity and being able to think of ideas in different matters are useful to everyone trying to learn something new. Lastly, I have had the opportunity to extend my understanding of others in my work as a Democracy Fellow. Part of the mission of my university's Democracy and Public Discourse Initiative is to teach constructive practices of engagement and communication on topics of community concern. Through such projects as our freshman mental health conversations and our forum on substance abuse in in the county, I have learned that the best work is done on the grounds of a common understanding amongst diverse viewpoints. Ultimately, I hope to extend my training and the basic philosophy of freedom of expression as a method of making my mentees feel welcome in conversing with me.

I am from Munster, IN, and I am currently pursuing my Bachelor of Science in Neuroscience at Duke University. During my free time, I enjoy playing basketball, watching basketball, and reading about basketball. You can also catch me trying to stay musically inclined, solving a Rubik's Cube, or playing board games. I am passionate about service in various forms, and I wish to pursue a career in medicine in the future. Throughout my academic years, I have engaged myself in varying instructional opportunities, from teaching younger students how to play the harmonium to guiding my peers through various academic subjects. My own academic challenges motivate me to be the most effective tutor I can be and help me guide my students through potential pitfalls along their academic journeys. I strive to create an environment where healthy interaction and communication are fostered, as I believe these are the crucial to the student experience. I tutor AP Psychology, MCAT Physical Sciences, MCAT Biological Sciences, and MCAT Social and Behavioral Sciences. Please do not hesitate to contact me if you require assistance with any of these subjects.

I am a junior at Purdue University studying Aerospace Engineering and am part of the Air Force ROTC program. I have 6 years of tutoring experience at places including Kumon, Mathnasium, and Purdue University. I have worked with kids of all ages from kindergarten to sophomores in college, each with their own set of unique strengths, and tutored a variety of subjects, including calculus, trigonometry, geometry, thermodynamics, chemistry, and physics. Like many of my previous students, I struggled to understand concepts that I was being taught and was a terrible test taker. However, I found ways to overcome my obstacles and develop an better intuition for what I was learning. I believe that it is only this intuition and understanding that helps overcome these obstacles. My least favorite thing to see people be discouraged, so with a little bit of guidance and reassurance, I want to show people that they are capable of anything they put their mind to.

Frequently Asked Questions
Yes, Varsity Tutors connects students from Crown Point's 14 schools across both the Crown Point Community School Corporation and Lake Central School Corporation. Whether your student attends a Crown Point elementary, middle, or high school, we match them with tutors who understand the local curriculum and Indiana academic standards.
Crown Point students typically seek help with math (especially algebra and geometry), English/language arts, and standardized test preparation for ILEARN and other Indiana assessments. We also work with students preparing for AP exams, college entrance tests like the SAT and ACT, and foundational skills support. Tutors can tailor instruction to your student's specific needs and school's curriculum.
Your first session is focused on understanding your student's learning style, current academic level, and specific goals. The tutor will assess what's working well and where your student needs the most support, then create a personalized plan aligned with Crown Point's curriculum and Indiana standards. This foundation helps ensure every session after that is targeted and effective.
Varsity Tutors connects students with tutors who understand Indiana's academic standards and how they're taught in Crown Point schools. Personalized 1-on-1 instruction allows tutors to focus on the exact concepts your student is struggling with, whether that's mastering ILEARN content, preparing for state assessments, or building skills needed for high school success. This targeted approach is especially valuable given Crown Point's 19.3:1 student-teacher ratio, where classroom teachers may have limited time for individual support.
Pricing varies based on the tutor's expertise, your student's subject, and how frequently you'd like sessions. We work with families to find flexible scheduling and pricing options that fit your budget. Many Crown Point families find that even a few sessions per week can make a meaningful difference in their student's confidence and grades.
We consider your student's specific subject, grade level, learning style, and academic goals when connecting them with a tutor. Tutors working with Crown Point students are familiar with local schools, Indiana curriculum standards, and the teaching approaches your student's school uses. If the match isn't right, we'll help find someone better suited to your student's needs.
Yes, Varsity Tutors connects students with tutors experienced in preparing for Indiana's ILEARN assessments, as well as the SAT (average national score around 1050) and ACT (average national score around 21). Tutors create targeted prep plans that focus on your student's weak areas and build test-taking strategies specific to each assessment.
You'll see progress through improved grades, stronger understanding of difficult concepts, and increased confidence in class. Many families also notice their student is more willing to ask questions or tackle challenging homework independently. Your tutor can provide regular updates on what your student is mastering and where to focus next.
