Session Summaries by Finance Tutors

San Marcos, TX Finance tutoring
The student and I did some basic review of Spanish grammar, including explanations of regular verb conjugation for the present, preterite, imperfect, future, and imperative tenses, as well as adjective-noun agreement and the subject, direct object, indirect object, reflexive, and possessive pronouns. He seemed to understand the explanations, even completing some of the conjugations verbally before I could write them out. Next week we will need his notes to make further progress in Spanish so that I can be sure I cover the correct review material with him.

The student and I reviewed the homework problems that he needed help with and then we reviewed the writing prompts that he brainstormed ideas for. We also studied more math and English. For homework, he is going to do 1/2 a section of math, the remainder of the science section that he already started (keeping to 5 minutes a passage), 2 reading passages, finish the English that we started, and do 1 or 2 complete essays. Next week we are only meeting for an hour, so we'll mostly focus on proofreading his essays and talking about strategies for the writing section.

The student scored an astounding 34 on her practice test, and this was the first time she took the test all at once. I assigned her the task of revising one of her essays to boost confidence in her writing ability. I am ecstatic about her results, and am sure she can replicate or might improve upon this score when she takes the test in two weeks. Next time we will go over some math concepts before concluding our series of lessons.

Introduced myself and got to know the student a little. We discussed her typical day and began to think about a possible schedule for studying. Also discussed ways to get organized by creating a binder for each subject or using 1-2 binders with subject dividers to organize topics. We spent about 15 minutes reviewing biology material from this past week. The assignments for next week are to organize subjects into binders as mentioned above, and to create biology flashcards using the vocabulary list on the biology syllabus. Plan going forward is to contact teachers for information related to the student's progress and then create a structured schedule for managing the workload in all classes.

The student and I started reviewing the topics of expected return and standard deviation (and variance) of individual stocks and a portfolio. We initially reviewed the overall concepts and I provided him with notes. In addition, we worked through the first practice problem using a completed Excel model that he found to be helpful. I advised him that practice is the best action to take to make sure he understands the calculations, and I will be providing him with another practice problem (and additional ones as needed) the next time we meet.
