I'm a Biology professor with over 20 years of experience in teaching and tutoring. My undergraduate degree is in Zoology, and my Ph.D. in Genetics. I've developed and taught college courses across the Biology curriculum. I also have extensive experience in standardized test preparation. My approach to tutoring is collaborative, personalized, and centered on your goals. I offer focused support as a deeply knowledgeable subject matter expert in a range of scientific disciplines. I can also help you prepare for standardized tests by reviewing content and helping you implement effective test taking strategies. You may also want to work on developing broader academic skills in addition to mastering the subject matter at hand. For example, we might focus on understanding a particular aspect of the circulatory system while at the same time developing skills that allow you to effectively extract meaningful information from a scientific text. This is what I do with my university students every day and I am excited to bring these same strategies to you! Whether you are trying to master a class or prepare for an exam, we will work together to help you meet your learning goals.

To start, I am a Korean-American originally from a small suburb near Los Angeles, California. My educational history includes a major in General Biology and minor in Psychology from the University of California, San Diego, as well as a Doctor of Physical Therapy Degree from Boston University. My educational interests include anatomy and physiology, kinesiology, neurobiology/psychology, algebra, and child and adolescent psychology. My personal interests vary from cooking to hiking to watching and playing just about every sport possible.I have had many years of tutoring experience in both a class and 1-on-1 setting. My longest experience involved tutoring a group of 10-12 7th and 8th grade students; which included but was not limited to completing schoolwork, preparing for STAR testing, and providing additional quizzes and questions when necessary. I have also had several years of part-time tutoring jobs for children in 2nd, 3rd, 4th, and 6th grade, with additional experience in 1-on-1 tutoring with 2 SAT students. My experience with teaching stems from not just an instructor's perspective, but also as a student; attending after school tutoring from the age of 13 to 17 years old. I believe this is one of the reasons I can connect to students so easily, because I understand the difficulties with learning. My tutoring sessions involve a very interactive approach on the part of the student with a reward based approach for their efforts. This is my way of promoting student interest in the topics of study, to prevent monotony and boredom with school work. I like to try to incorporate games into my tutoring sessions that may include topics they have learned; whether it's a memory card game, jeopardy, or a simple game of hangman. As your tutor, I will do my best to not only help your student excel at school, but also find fun in learning.

I am a passionate and driven pre-medical Biology graduate from the University of Washington who is currently applying to medical schools all over the country. My collegiate studies have enabled me to feel confident in my abilities to tutor life sciences, ranging from human anatomy, biology, environmental science and ecology to biochemistry and physiology. In preparing for and taking the Medical College Admissions Test (MCAT), widely considered to be the most rigorous of graduate school exams, I further strengthened my abilities in verbal exams, critical reading, and writing at an advanced level.I spend my free time playing soccer, volunteering at the Downtown Emergency Service Center (DESC) homeless shelter, playing the piano, hanging with friends and much more. I love working with people from all walks of life and have also spent time tutoring a diverse range of people at Seattle Education Access in the past. I look forward to meeting you and look forward to helping you reach your goals!

Being in my final year of undergraduate studies, I have learned that the world of academia is different for every person. Every student has a different way of learning, a different way of studying, and a different way of succeeding. This is why I strive to make every tutoring experience unique. I have a very diverse academic background, having lived and studied in both Europe and America, and my goal is to use all the knowledge I've gained to make each tutoring experience as rewarding for the student as it is for me. I look forward to helping more students make their academic lives just a little less stressful by presenting materials from a different perspective and reviewing concepts in a way that may be more easily understood. No two students are the same, and I fully intend on personalizing every session to fit the student's learning style.

In May of 2015, I graduated from the University of Saint Thomas in Saint Paul, Minnesota. There, I earned my degree in Biochemistry while working as a coffee shop barista, environmental chemistry laboratory assistant, and emergency department medical scribe. Further, as an undergraduate, I developed a love for teaching as I worked as a Teacher's Assistant in various biology and chemistry laboratory courses and later had the opportunity to serve as a private tutor in Organic Chemistry and Biochemistry. I enjoyed the opportunity to work with students in the subject areas I love. With academic understanding comes excitement, further curiosity, and a sense of achievement. Leading my students toward this understanding is my goal, and something I take great pride in. In August of 2015, I began my medical school education at Creighton University. I am excited to continue working as a tutor while earning a degree that will allow me to be a life-long teacher.

I feel the the academic experiences that I have been through as a student for so many years have given me such great insight as a student. All the years of education and of having been a student always gave me an opportunity to learn from my professors. Now that I am on the other side, I have a sense of empathy, respect, and also feel humbled by my experiences and certainly very able to communicate in a professional manner with my students. I have and hold my students to high expectations and will go above and beyond to help them understand the material and my objective is to make them feel empowered and aware that they are capable of performing satisfactory and independently. For myself, teaching provides an opportunity for continual learning and growth. One of my hopes as an educator is to instill a love of learning in my students, as I share my own passion for learning with them. I feel there is a need for compassionate, strong, and dedicated individuals who are excited about working with students of all ages. In our competitive society it is important for students to not only receive a solid education, but to work with someone who is aware of and sensitive to their individual needs. I am such a person and will always strive to be the best educator that I can be.

I am a Health Sciences and Biology double major at Northeastern University, graduating in just one year. I have worked in part-time biology research lab for three years, as well as full-time in a hospital in Boston for over a year now, in both clinical and research settings. My tutoring experience started a few years ago when I taught a nutrition class to children in their early teens, teaching them the basics of nutrition, such as picking healthy ingredients and avoiding processed foods. Since then, I have been a part-time tutor, and I look forward to meeting lots of new students through Varsity Tutors! As a current college student, I have taken many of the classes I tutor very recently, and am still actively involved in learning, especially in science classes. When I am tutoring for a course, I like to teach the students the way I would have liked to be taught, and I try to teach things that help them remember the material more easily, and connect the dots to understand the big picture.

I believe in the art of teaching students. It is my passion and lifelong goal to make students independent learners. I believe education is paramount to our society and its success in any field. I would like to equip students with valuable tools that would help establish their foundation in basic sciences and mathematics. Students are capable and willing to take any step necessary to advance their knowledge and expertise. Its their enthusiasm that drives me to teach everyday and aid in their academic progress.I would like to offer solid support and basic skills that I have developed over the years. It takes commitment and hard work to study any course material. The first thing I do is highlight the central theme of each chapter, then work on central idea of each paragraph and tie it together to some unique concept. This tool has helped me through regular and honors courses. It is essential to be patient in note-taking. Every idea must be cross-checked and validated. There are several references available that students can utilize. I always use outside books and websites to aid in my studies.I would also like to be a mentor of my students. I like developing long-term relationships and each students abilities and dreams are like my own. I want them to cultivate them and use them for the best of society. I want students to take each challenge as welcoming and surmountable. Learning is a skill that can be easily changed and used to our best advantage. Students can learn some tips from me that would give them an edge in their choice of study.Learning is not a need, but a way of life.
