The student and I went over the homework I assigned on Tuesday - and there were far fewer mistakes than any homework assignment yet.  We also did a lot of Latin to English translation; some sentences the student got pretty quickly.  He takes his time to think about each sentence; sometimes he gets very caught up in the vocab.  Other times, he breezes through it.  During our upcoming break, we talked about really working on memorizing vocab, in the hopes that this will help him feel more confident when translating.

Working through practice tests. Student is making some progress but is still having a lot of trouble with simplifying polynomials. Also, the positive and negative numbers haven't completely settled in her head. However, she is doing much better overall with the concepts.

We began the editing process and continued to develop the content in her paper on Nat Turner. She particularly struggles with tying thoughts together and making paragraphs transition well. We will continue to work on these things until the paper is due.

The student and I focused on different aspects of test prep he had been struggling with. He had a list of everything he had been working on. We did a little bit of English, reviewing some punctuation rules, and then some reading. We reviewed what he had missed on the reading and discussed strategies for not missing the same types of questions. He took two more passages on his own: got a perfect score on one and missed four on the other. However, his incorrect answers were on tough questions and were really good guesses. I am hopeful that he will do better on the reading this time around. We closed the session out working on the science section, which he also seems to be improving on. He did several passages where he made no mistakes. The main struggle seems to be on the fighting scientist passages within the science, and he will take those last to make sure he has enough time to answer the questions he feels more comfortable doing.

The student and I got re-started by picking up where we left off, discussing the exam writing section. I addressed some of the student's concerns about the formatting and the content of each of the two essay prompts before we moved on to begin looking at the Quantitative Reasoning (math) section. We looked over the general format of the math section and began practicing comparison problems. I have asked The student to complete a set of practice essays for next time; we will resume the math review after that.

The student had prepared her homework and studiously corrected it.  She didn't fully understand her errors, so we reviewed those questions.  Mostly, they were minor errors, not misunderstood concepts.  From there, we focused on sentence completion questions: strategy then practice.  She showed real improvement on this type of question.  We began to discuss the essay question in preparation for her practice test, which was assigned to be completed for our next meeting.
