We've had the BEST experience with VT! Our tutor has helped my middle schoolers math grades come up from a D to an A for our 8th grader and from a D to a B for my 6th grader. I'm beyond pleased with how she connected with my boys.

Tutoring review by Jeremy in San Jose, CA
Today, the student did 60 minutes of math work (a homework page plus review problems from her old quizzes).  For the last 30 minutes, we worked on the final needs of her state project--the Triorama!  We identified missing pieces of information that she wanted to print later that night.  I hope she did well during the presentation--she was excited!

The student and I did review of both Algebra and Latin, working on specific questions/problems she had.  We got through all of her questions, and she seemed confident and prepared with the rest of material. It was really good that she had specific issues ready for me so we were able to spend enough time on each question to make sure she understood each specific problem as well as the more general concepts.

The student and I met today for the first time and reviewed Geometry, specifically the SAS, SSS, and ASA theorems.  We also began an outline for her history material.  This session only lasted an hour.  She is very smart and a pleasure to work with.

We reviewed probability, doing problems involving replacing and not replacing objects; we did probability problems in her math book and worked on thinking about the probability of landing on the lines on a spinner (these would have a very small probability because of their narrowness). We discussed the dimensions of shapes: points (0), lines (1), flat shapes (2), objects (3).

Tutoring review by Rebekah in San Jose, CA
We reviewed the general concepts and strategies for test-taking during the first half of our session. We then focused on math, as this is where she indicated her greatest uncertainties lay. We worked primarily on balancing equations and grouping together like terms. She struggled a bit at first with the order of operations in an equation, but with practice she was able to follow the method precisely. Division involving negative numbers was confusing to her at first, but with repetition she also gained confidence in this area. Overall, it was a very successful first session. I enjoyed meeting and working with the student.

Discussed and reviewed a practice test I had provided to the student in our last lesson, covering various mathematical concepts, ranging from geometry to algebra to word/text problems. Additional time was spent on discussing and aiding my student with areas that she is still struggling with, such as complex fractions and finding LCDs, LCMs and mastering the rules of operations and mathematical signs
