Session Summaries by Elementary Math Tutors

Elementary Math Tutoring review by Morgan in McHenry, IL
The student had a geometry project that we spent the majority of today's session working on. The project dealt with transformations of a particular figure which he had already drawn in a coordinate plane. We had to perform a rotation, translation, reflection, and a dilation on the original image. We spent a few minutes talking about each transformation, what it does, and what the result should look like. After this, we determined where each of the points in the transformed figure would end up, then the student plotted the points and drew each translated figure. We went over the rest of the aspects of the project and talked about a timeline of what he should work on to have the project finished by the deadline.

Continued reviewing for the AP exam. We reviewed various definitions and concepts. I made sure the student could clearly define all the vocab I presented to her as well as provide examples. We then went over practice problems concerning study design, conditional/marginal probability, and identifying discrete/continuous variables. The student has proven beyond proficient at most mathematical work.

The student and I worked on his homework that involved different types of convergence/divergence testing. We went over the ratio test, the limit comparison test, and how one can tell which type of convergence test to use on a given convergence problem.

The student completed 1/8 worksheets, and number 2 should be done by our next session. We will continue to complete all packets and then resume with the Number Devil, if time permits; I'd hope to get back to it ASAP and work on it in conjunction to her packets.

Elementary Math Tutoring review by Lorena in McHenry, IL
The topics covered during this session we multiplication problems and multiplication strategies: repeat addition, illustration, and skip counting. We discussed his success and areas of improvement. He still has leftover worksheets he can practice. His attitude towards the topic was great. He was smiling and dancing around. He's got it, which is the win for this session. I have enjoyed working with him to become happy about math, and watching him grow academically. He is a great kid.

Elementary Math Tutoring review by Jessica in McHenry, IL
The student had a great session today! He earned 19, 19, and 26 out of 30 on his three factor power quizzes. We then reviewed angles and triangles, focusing on what an angle is and how you can tell if an angle is acute, right, or obtuse. Using his body helped him act out the different angles. He definitely made progress, and could say that any angle measuring less than 90 degrees was acute, and more than 90 degrees was obtuse. He had three more homework problems to do and some optional problems related to identifying angles.
