I am currently a lead preschool teacher. I received my Bachelor's in Psychology from VCU and am looking to return to school to further my education. While in college, I worked as a Supplemental Instruction leader, teaching general biology and anatomy. I have also worked in an after school program with elementary age children, but I have my fondest memories volunteering as a counselor for Camp Kesem. In my own experience, I loved school and now I love teaching even more at all age levels! I especially enjoy the challenge of getting creative to discover what approach and mediums work best for each student. I am available for in person as well as online tutoring.

Throughout my educational experiences I have come to appreciate how variable learning can be. There are good days, hard days, fun subjects and tough ones too. Regardless of the circumstance there is something to be gleaned and applied that can benefit us in the long term. As an undergraduate at Brigham Young University and a medical student at Penn State University I feel I have gained a great deal of experience with different learning environments and circumstances. Along the way I have developed a sincere interest in learning and helping others do the same! I'm excited to be a part of Varsity tutors and hope to be a great listener and resource for you as you grow throughout your own educational journey.I am originally from Salt Lake City, Utah but have spent about 6 years out East. My time away from my medical training is spent mostly with my wife and two little boys. We enjoy the outdoors and being rowdy! I enjoy collegiate and professional sports, running and reading about most anything.

I graduated with a BA in Liberal Arts in 2013 from St. John's College in Annapolis, Maryland. I have a very well balanced educational background and a passion for learning that I think could greatly benefit others. I have been a tutor for high school students and a teacher's aide for elementary school students so I am also well prepared for a teaching role.I am knowledgeable and ready to tutor in Geometry, Anatomy, Philosophy, and Psychology, but am very capable of tutoring in many other areas. My favorite subject to tutor in would have to be Anatomy/Physiology because I find the human body to be a fascinating machine. When I'm not pursuing more academic interests, I am either at my job as a pharmacy technician or out seeing live music/Pittsburgh sports.

I have been working in education for the last 20 years. During this time I have taught a variety of Math and Science classes. I am currently certified in the state of Arizona in General Science, Biology, and Mathematics.I graduated with honors from University of Phoenix (MAEd - Curriculum and Technology), Black Hills State University (BS - Mathematics with a Minor in Middle School Education), and George Washington University (BS - Health Science). Specific tutoring experience includes working with students in my classes, Sylvan Learning, and after school preparation classes for SAT). I have tutor Mathematics from basic level high school math to college trigonometry and science classes including biology, chemistry, and general science. My favorite classes are mathematics, especially the higher level math because it challenges me also. I also enjoy tutoring math because so many students have a "block" when it comes to math and to see them get to understand it is amazing, not only for me, but especially for the student. When I tutor students they are the driving force. How I approach them depends on their understanding and participation. I ask many questions to guide them along until they learn the process of solving the problems. Students must be able to relate one kind of problem to the next. What are the similarities and what are the differences? What strategies can be used? There are often multiple strategies, what is the best one for the student? I truly feel that all students can grasp the concepts of mathematics to a given degree. As far as hobbies I enjoy boating, swimming, books, movies, and riding a motorcycle.

I graduated from the University of Texas at Austin in 2012 and am now working on a DPT (Doctor of Physical Therapy) from the University of St Augustine for Health Sciences, located in south Austin. Currently, I enjoy yoga, flag football with a social league, boardgames, and trying out new recipes. In the past, I have tutored Math and Reading ages 3-15 and for high school students in various levels of Math, Sciences, and English. I also have some experience aiding college students through coursework while leading group study sessions. I also taught elementary aged children the importance of nutrition and an active lifestyle as an after school instructor in AISD. I worked with them on their homework as part of the program as well.In addition to previous tutoring jobs, I also have experience in having actually taken several AP tests, SAT, PSAT, ACT, GRE, and MCAT, so I am available to help you or your child tackle their next big education obstacle. I can tutor in elementary and middle school Math and Reading, Grammar and Mechanics, English, Biology, Anatomy, Physiology. My favorite of these would have to be in the sciences and test prep. When I study, I like to have a little fun by making up mnemonics or drawing pictures and charts to help me understand the bigger picture and where each detail of information falls into it. However, everyone learns differently, so my philosophy is to adapt to whichever method a student needs to most effectively and thoroughly understand the material.
