Tutoring review by Christopher in Fox Point, WI
Today the student and I had our final session of the year by reviewing the majority of the topics which we've covered this semester. We went over the review sheet we talked about last week, this time though taking a closer look at the problems. We focused on the primary areas of exponential equations, graphing equations, and word problems. I tried an alternate route of explaining the principal of making a negative exponent the reciprocal of the positive, and I think that helped him a little bit. I asked him to again write the equation x^-2 = 1/x^2 on his test when he gets it so he's reminded of it, so I hope that will help. He seemed good with sequences, even better than last time, so I believe he should be okay in that regard. Overall a good session, and I wish him good luck on his final.

The student and I went over his study guide for the final. I encouraged him to try at least a problem or two from the covered topics. He needs a bit more work on altitude on hypotenuse, and circle bisectors, and it would definitely benefit him to work through all the topics one more time. The student was able to complete all the extra credit he was given, and he says he was able to get credit for all but three of them. He also said he got a B on his last test, so between those two, and the final, he should be able to get a good grade.

Tutoring review by Isabelle in Fox Point, WI
The student is starting to use strategies that I've shown her to solve problems on her own. I gave her a few math facts to learn by our next session as well as a game to practice on her own. We talked about rounding, and she seems to be getting better at it. We discussed Monday's homework, which covered a variety of topics. She worked the problems on her own and was able to get them correct.

Tutoring review by Jesse in Fox Point, WI
The student and I went through anything and everything she missed as she tries to catch up in her math class. We learned how to draw a perpendicular segment bisector, an angle bisector, as well as how to fundamentally understand why each work the way they do. We also started reviewing all of the postulates, theorems, and equations in geometric proofs. I was happy to hear that she understands that she is the master of her own destiny, and if she wants to improve her mathematical ability, it is going to take confidence in herself and a commitment to improvement. The next session is set for next Monday.

Tutoring review by Jo in Fox Point, WI
In today's session we began by reading a short story. First the student and I read it together, then he read it by himself. He did fairly well on this reading. Next, he wrote a short story from 3 words taken from the story we read. He then read his story to me and I corrected spelling and punctuation. The last thing we did was read several pages from a book about space. This book is a bit challenging to the student so we read it together twice, before he attempted it on his own. He did ok with all but the biggest words.
