The student and I reviewed for his literature final. We discussed themes and their significance in the drama his class is reading. I helped him identify the symbols in the play, as well as the symbolic nature of the characters in general through analysis. He is still working on his Latin root activity. The student asserted that some of the vocabulary we reviewed a few weeks ago were on the exam.

I helped the student study for his quiz. We reviewed the study questions and I tested to see how much of the material he remembered. I also helped him study for his Morality test by going through his notes and assignments and creating a study guide for him to review. We also finished off the Forensics chapter.

For the 1st half of today, the student completed the Ch. P and Ch. 1 Review Quiz covering material from sections Ch.P-1, P-2, P-3, P-4, P-5, P-6, P-7, Ch.1-1, 1-3, 1-4, 1-5, and 1-6. For the latter part of the session, we watched the film rendition of the Death of a Salesman screenplay. The student was able to pick up on similarities between the film and the book, and at one point even asked to follow the film along with the book. He also picked up on aspects of the plot and scene that he'd missed in the book. For homework, he is to finish Death of a Salesman, and study for the DOAS quiz tomorrow.

At our first session, the student took a brief reading comprehension assessment. We then discussed certain elements of the reading process and why/how they matter. I introduced her to some Language Arts vocabulary including the ideas of Free Association versus Rhetoric as well as rhetorical/literary devices like hyperbole, figurative language, and connotative words.

We talked about his vocabulary and about writing. I showed him how to work through an essay. He wrote an introduction to an test prompt. He wanted to continue to work on it at home. I love that he seemed invested.
