We worked on the student's homework which was a changing words sheet, interview a grandparent, and math problems. Then we read a story about apple orchards and used the synonym cards. The student was focused on his work and did a good job today.

Today the student and I went over the parts of the cell and their functions.  She had a worksheet to complete for a quiz the next day.  I also asked her about her other classes and how they were going.  I stressed the importance of reading the material before class and devoting time everyday.

Today I worked with the student on geometry and chemistry. We spent the majority of the time reviewing geometry by going over a study guide as well as clarifying any issues on any problems that he was confused on. We spent the last 30 minutes of the session going over chemistry, which seemed to pose the biggest challenge. He had a solid grasp of geometry but we still have some work that we will continue with in chemistry. He did seem to have a much better understanding of moles, stoichiometry, limiting reagents and percent yields.

Tutoring review by Anna in Hayward, CA
We started spending some time to review her vocab from the textbook. Once she was ready for testing, I tested her on the vocab, re-testing her another time for a few words. Next, we reviewed the incorrect questions for Old SAT Test 7 from Sections 9 and 10. We wrote the reason she got a question wrong next to every incorrect question, and made a summary list written on the first page of the test of mistakes to avoid in the future. We do this for every test. After, she took Sections 4, 6, and 10 of Old SAT Test 8 (timed). For HW, she has M's, N's, O's, and P's for vocab; and the one section of the Old SAT Test 8.

Tutoring review by Paul in Hayward, CA
The student is in very good shape to score well on the exam. He's practicing often and making use of all the strategies we've been developing. Today, we focused on English and science, two sections we've been putting off while we focused on reading.  His reading inference skills have really shown improvement, and that's carrying through to help him in many of the English questions as well.  His work on the science section today was also very strong.  In the three weeks leading up to the test, I suggest he spend time practicing all sections.  The more practice he can put in, the easier all of this is going to feel!
