I am a second-year undergraduate student studying Chemical Engineering with a biotech concentration at the Georgia Institute of Technology. My favorite subjects to learn are math and science, but I mostly tutor math. I believe learning should be fun and hands-on so that students actively learn and want to learn the material. Outside of school, I am the Finance Chair for the Asian American Student Association at Georgia Tech, I lift and stay active, and I love baking and cooking!

Learning anything can be difficult, especially when one is not interested and fails to make a genuine effort. The first step is to find the beauty in knowledge. I have gone through this transition and can relate to someone who has difficulty learning weather it originates from lack of interest or inability to understand concepts using conventional methods. I, as a visual and conceptual learner, find myself able to study and learn more effectively if I manipulate what I am learning to fit my preferences and I can help and I am willing to help one learn how to do this.I am a senior at the University of Texas at Dallas and I will be graduating in Spring 2016. I have completed my B.S. degree in Biology and am currently working on a B.S. degree in Neuroscience. I will enter either pharmacy school at UT or medical school after I graduate. I have been tutoring since high school, starting out in mathematics. In college I tutored in mathematics, biology, chemistry and even standardized tests such as the PCAT and MCAT. I also have work experience in revising and writing questions for these tests. Lastly, I am a TA for anatomy and physiology at my university and this has been my favorite teaching experience. My favorite subjects to tutor are math (anything from geometry and SAT math to calculus) and science- particularly biology and chemistry. I love subjects such as anatomy, neuroscience and organic chemistry, which make you form images in your mind and learn using spatial skills. I find that this is one of my strengths and it does not stop at the books. I also play sports such as soccer and football. The skill definitely helped me as a goalkeeper for high school team.I like to enjoy the good-weather-days by swimming, playing football and futball, golfing and taking walks in the park. During down times I like to play darts, build things, do some microscopy or read books on neurology and evolution. I also am a big fan of video games and can entertain myself for weeks after getting a new game. I also love music as I have been playing the tuba and the snare since middle school. I especially like to play on my drum set whenever I come home for a few days. I have always loved being an athlete and I exercise regularly (my favorite workout is none other than the deadlift!) I enjoy nature and love going camping, taking hikes and boating. I am also an animal enthusiast, as my childhood dream was to become a zoologist and a marine biologist; I still hope to fight for conservation in Africa and South America after I am seasoned in my profession. My long term goal is to contribute to the effort to find causes/cures for many neuro-degenerative diseases as well as neural/psychotic disorders and in the field of neuroscience in general as it purely fascinates me.

I wish to carry on the legacy of the many great teachers that equipped my mind to discern greater truth for itself by aiming to pass on my passion and love of learning to as many students as possible.With that said, the greatest reward of my classical education has been not what I have learned but how it made me feel and where that feeling has lead me to a more complete and fulfilling existence.Within the context of the rapidly changing modern world, many lessons of the past are being foolishly forgotten that can serve us genuine good. Among the worst of such losses is, in my opinion, the richness of our connections to each other and to our world at large. However, what is remembered upon reading the classics is that the human mind creates its own posture, for the ancients were as brilliant as us but in different ways. They lived lives with the same fears and ambitions that drive us today and the same capacity for emotion and intelligence.If I can teach students to understand this more fully, I believe they may become better humans within our society and develop a heightened sensitivity to each other that will further their own learning

In addition to tutoring on this platform, I also tutor General Chemistry at Brandeis University, where I am a full time undergraduate working towards a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry. My teaching philosophy is that if a student is having trouble grasping a concept, they just have not had it explained in the right way to them yet. My tutoring style is very interactive, and I like students to explain their thought process to me as they work on problems.

I am in the process of transitioning careers from an attorney to a high school social studies teacher. I plan to start teaching in the fall. I have a rich background in a rigorous liberal arts education thatwould enable me to tutor in a diverse range of subjects, as well as guide students to think more critically, read more closely, and write more crisply and powerfully. My legal education and experience have further enhanced these skills. Most importantly, I love learning and have come realize that it is my vocation to share and impart that love of learning in others.As beautifully put by Roman Stoic philosopher Seneca in his moral epistles: "[P]art of the joy in learningis that it puts me in a position to teach; nothing, however outstanding and however helpful, will ever give me any pleasure if the knowledge is to be for my benefit alone. I've been tutoring for three years now, and having recently taken admissions and AP tests, I am happy to impart all the tips and tricks I learned from studying for them myself. For me, tutoring isn't just a way to raise my students' grades or test scores (though that is a big part of tutoring!), but also increase their self-confidence and love of learning.
