I have a Bachelor's degree in Mathematics from UC Santa Barbara and a Master's degree in Teaching from Western Oregon University. I have been working with adult math students at a local community college for over 15 years and now I teach at Western Oregon University. I've also taught at the middle school and high school level in Oregon.As a tutor, I hope to help students who need extra time and an extra resource to succeed in their math pursuits. I have helped students who are taking independent study classes, students who are behind in their public school classes, and students who are studying for state exams.I know that most people don't share my love of the beauty of mathematics, but I hope to convince them of how math is such an important part of our everyday lives. I hold a BA in philosophy, theatre, and history from one of the top schools in the Midwest. Before that I was a national level debater at one of the top best programs in the country. Nowadays I'm a circus performer as well as a teacher/coach all around the city.

I am passionate about teaching because of the unusual path I took to academia.I left high school in 9th grade and didn't return until my early 20's. However, upon returning, I hit the ground running and never looked back.After graduating from Creighton Law, I received my Divorce Mediator certification, attended both the State and Federal Tax schools offered through the State of Iowa, and passed my Securities Industry Essentials examinations.I am a lifelong learner and am dedicated to being the best student, teacher, and mentor. I'm a father to three boys, and teaching my sons the path to success is my greatest job.

As a writer and theater director, I believe so much of learning is telling stories: finding patterns, understanding trends, re-telling and repetition of concepts. Writing, grammar, and reading comprehension is my strong suit, and I love helping students to see the stories I see.

I also graduated from The National Shakespeare Conservatory's two-year actor training program, and studied acting at London's Royal Academy of Dramatic Arts and completed the Screenwriting program at New York University. Originally from the Cleveland area, I have been in New York for more than 20 years, working extensively in the entertainment and legal industries. I teach acting, voice, and movement to teens and adults, having worked at CUNY's York College in Queens, Manhattan's Breakthrough Studios, as well as private instruction. I did employee training and evaluation in the legal industry for 15 years, and currently provide contract services to companies upgrading their computer systems. While I tutor a broad rangeof subjects, I am most passionate about acting and writing. People are more creative and expressive than they give themselves credit for, and I love helping a student of any age discover that they do, in fact, have what it takes for acting, public speaking, writing, or any other form of creative expression. My approach starts with what the student already knows, and then pushes her or him outside of the comfort zone to discover previously unrealized creativity. This approach works well in other subject areas also, helping students to think outside the box and use creative problem solving abilities for subjects not traditionally thought of as "creative." In my spare time I enjoy writing screenplays, playing my ukulele (I have two of them!) and performing with my friends at karaoke.
