About Me

I am a currently attending Graduate School and working towards my Masters of Science in Education for Urban Adolescents with Special Needs (Grades 7-12). I enjoy tutoring because I find contributing to another person's joy and sense of accomplishment immensely gratifying. I am a person who enjoys different and challenging experiences, and I believe my track record as a tutor is an example of that. I have had the opportunity of engaging in the most unique mixture of peculiar, fun, and stimulating positions. My experience ranges from ESL classes with Somali refugee students in high school to Special Needs students in elementary school. I have also done some freelance tutoring intermittently for friends and family. All of these experiences have been contributed to my teaching style. My philosophy for tackling challenging academic subjects is also an outgrowth of my own personal study habits. I believe that organization is key. I have found that a certain combination of systematic organization and simplification of every detail helps to illuminate the solution. Having a structured and repeatable approach can then be engrained in the thought process through repetition, and improvement will surely follow. Furthermore, I believe positive reinforcement and encouragement are also invaluable tutoring tools. Inspiring confidence in students so that they don't become discouraged by difficulties they encounter keeps them engaged and more inclined to self-improvement.
