I am an avid cell molecular biologist, anatomist and neuroscientist with a passion for educating young minds to reach their fullest potential. I have more than a decade of experience in teaching and research at College/University level. Having lived and taught on 2 different continents has enabled me to become more attentive to student's needs and do my best to set them up for future success. My philosophy is that reading and teaching can stimulate the mind but thinking will plant and grow ideas. The approach I use is inspired from my own experiences in learning biological sciences where there seemed to be always an absurd amount of material to be read and understood. By centering on the core principles, I believe it significantly reduces the need to 'cram' concepts but to apply content that they have learnt. My job is to lead students to learn more about themselves as it relates to the subject, that way the knowledge acquired results in permanent change of behavior.

I am a senior at Virginia Commonwealth University. I am working towards a BFA in Dance and Choreography with minors in Political Science and Psychology. I have served as a TA for a freshman honors writing course at VCU since Fall 2018. I have also assisted and taught children's dance classes. I enjoy babysitting and helping my younger sister with her homework. While I tutor a broad range of subjects, I am most passionate about Math, Science, and Psychology. I am also happy to help students prepare for Standardized Tests, particularly with the math portions of the exams. I have always felt respect and admiration towards my teachers in both smaller and more grand situations who have shaped me into the lifelong learner that I am. As a tutor, my goal is to make good on this foundation and show students the same courtesy my teachers have shown me.

I am a graduate of Dartmouth College where I majored in History. I also received my M.Ed. from Boston College so that I could become a middle school and high school social studies teacher. Currently, I am working concurrently on my JD (at Duke University) and my Ph.D. in Education (at Boston College) and hope to one day combine the two degrees by working in policy. I have tutored or been in the education field my entire life and love it when I am able to help a scholar learn something new. I love to tutor a broad range of subjects but primarily focus on History and English. I particularly love working with scholars on their college essays and finding ways to get their unique voice and experience into writing. Education is crucial and it is important to work with scholars so that they realize the vast amount of knowledge there is in the world. I am proficient at US History and can help an AP US History student towards a 4 or 5 on his or her exam. My concentration for both of my post-high school degrees was religion, and I would love to tutor students who are taking religion courses. My favorite hobby is reading, and I believe it is important to instill an enjoyment of reading in students as early as possible. I can help young people who need extra support to become better readers.

I am a sophomore at Duke University studying computer science and physics. Academically, I am drawn towards disciplines that employ logical problem-solving. I enjoy working with others to discover new intuitive ways of understanding problems.

I am earning dual Bachelors of Science from Duke University and Duke Kunshan University (located in Kunshan, Jiangsu, China) in Behavioral Science-- intended to graduate in 2023. As a former Varsity Tutors student myself, I can confidently say that our services not only allow students to be proud of what they can achieve (for myself it was an SAT score and college admissions essays) but also who they are. Tutoring had a huge impact on my confidence in the classroom and other academic settings (i.e. testing, presentations, etc.) My greatest wish is to pay it forward.

I started tutoring in high school, working with Spanish-speaking ESL students in their native language as volunteer service. Due to my exceptional academic performance, family friends and members of my local church would often ask me to tutor their children, a request I would grant as much as my schedule allowed. My professional experience with tutoring only began in college, when I was hired as a teaching assistant for the Duke TIP summer program. After graduation, I worked for an international test prep company for two years. In addition to teaching classes on the SAT, ACT, and SAT II Subject Tests, I also provided private tutoring services in high school-level math, statistics, and physics.

I am currently a student at Cornell University. I've returned to my hometown of Holly Springs for the summer and am looking forward to working with students who went through the same experiences I did. My tutoring experiences began with my little sister and gradually expanded as I continued through high school. Now that I'm in college, I think I can offer great insight into how to achieve great test scores and everything else that may be useful for getting into college.
