I am a rising senior at Duke University majoring in Psychology and minoring in English. I first started tutoring when I was 10; I'd explain new words in books to my little sister and help her with cursive, work on times tables with my older brother, and teach the little bit of English I knew to my immigrant parents. I tutored students in my middle school through a counseling program, helped deaf and disabled students develop social and creative skills, and freelance tutored throughout high school, and have tutored Spanish-speaking immigrant families (ages 6-12) in Durham, NC since October 2018. Other teaching experiences include training my dog to go down a slide on command and teaching my 10th-grade precalculus teacher how to hand whistle. Though I tutor a broad range of subjects, I am most passionate about English, Literature, and Writing. I believe reading and writing are not only complex forms of thinking, but avenues for understanding someone else's unique perspective and ways of being in life. I have the most fun helping my students dissect arguments and meaning from texts, especially when it's in Spanish, my native language. When I'm not tutoring, I most likely am listening to music, playing board games with my family, or looking at cat videos online.

I strive to bring students toward their lightbulb moments not by repeating facts until they're drilled in, but by helping my students understand precisely why the laws of science, the rules of grammar, and the events of history are the way they are, and by lifting the curtain on the intricacies of the subject matter. I believe that learning is, and ought to be, for its own sake.Math and philosophy, and their nuanced interactions, are my great passions. I've run more 5ks and 10ks than I can count, but the validation of completing a long race is nothing like the satisfying moment of writing "Q.E.D." on a difficult proof. I'm a scholar of the Western canon, greatly influenced by great thinkers and writers of the past such as Plato, Virgil, Aquinas, and Anselm. I love to read and to discuss what I've read, and I heartily appreciate a good philosophical argument. Extracurricularly, I write musicals, one of which premiered at Yale last year, and attend Yale Political Union meetings to debate the pros and cons of various fiscal and social policies until the crack of dawn.

I am currently pursuing a Bachelors of Science in Aerospace Engineering at the Georgia Institute of Technology. I am also a graduate of the high school International Baccalaureate Program. I have informal experience tutoring high school physics, but am most passionate about tutoring students for the ACT standardized test, having had extensive experience preparing for standardized tests throughout high school. I am eager to aid students in boosting their scores before their upcoming college applications, an important milestone in many students' lives. In my free time, I also enjoy playing tennis.

I'm a recent graduate of Colby College in Waterville, Maine, where I studied Mathematics and Philosophy. At Colby, I worked as a tutor for both the Mathematics Department and the Writing Center, so I have experience working with a wide range of subjects. I enjoy tutoring math more than any other subject, mainly because that's what I've specialized in over the past few years. However, I also had a fantastic time working at my college's writing center, so I have no problems tutoring essay writing or SAT writing. In my spare time I like to go hiking and running, and I also enjoy watching and talking about movies, TV shows, and pop culture in general. After graduating from Dartmouth College with a degree in Psychology, I decided to venture into the world of mathematics. I earned a Master's degree in Statistics from Rutgers University. I'm currently taking courses at Columbia University in mathematics and computer science because I feel that there is still (and always will be) more to learn.I love learning about and teaching math and I hope I can impart my knowledge onto you to help you succeed in the classroom and develop an appreciation for the subject matter. Often students memorize formulas without understanding why or when they should apply that particular formula. I believe a deeper understanding of the subject material helps students to perform better and also maintains their interest in the material. Although my main concentration has been statistics, I also want to help students excel in algebra, calculus, and math for standardized tests (SAT/GRE).In addition to my interest in mathematics, I am a huge baseball fan. My interest in baseball was the catalyst for earning a statistics degree in the first place! Besides baseball, I enjoy running, cooking, and spending time with friends and family.
