As a graduate of the University of Southern California, I am an individual who is passionate about the importance of providing all students with the opportunity for a good education. I subscribe to the belief in equal worth and dignity for all students and the right of every child to learn in a safe and orderly environment. These were the main principles stressed throughout my education at USC, and they coincide with my own personal philosophy. As a fully credentialed math teacher, I am currently employed at Apex Academy High School in Los Angles where I teach Algebra 2, Geometry, Trigonometry and Pre-calculus. I have extensive experience tutoring students in all levels of math as well as SAT and Cahsee prep. My goal is to make learning math fun and painless. My belief is that every student can be successful in math, and I make it my mission to ensure they do.

I am a secondary English education graduate from Northern Kentucky University, and am currently working on my Master's in Reading education from San Diego State University. Upon graduation, I had the opportunity to teach English at a local high school in Northern Kentucky for two years. After those two years, I knew I needed a change and decided to apply for my graduate degree at San Diego State University. Since my time in San Diego, I have had the opportunity to travel around to many different San Diego City Schools as a visiting teacher.I have extensive experience teaching/tutoring English in all ages as well as test prep and college essays. I am extremely passionate about education. I am a firm believer that every individual has the right to equal education. The power of language and the written word is vital for human survival and success. I hope that I can be there to help you become more confident in the subject of English and therefore become more confident in school and the future. While I dedicate a great amount of my life to education, in my spare time I enjoy running, hiking, yoga, healthy eating, the arts, music, and watching movies with friends and family. I also love traveling and experience new cultures. I look forward to meeting you and hopefully helping you achieve success.

I have been tutoring for the last five years, and I am grateful that so many students have trusted me to help them achieve their goals. I received my Bachelor of Arts in English Literature from Oberlin College. I am currently studying at San Francisco State University, pursuing my Master's of Science in Physics. Between my undergraduate and graduate studies, I served in the United States Peace Corps to teach English in rural Panama. In San Francisco, I have been enjoying helping my students improve their test scores on the SAT. I have a strong connection to all the subjects I tutor. Because I am studying science, I am most passionate about physics and math, but I excel in every subject I teach. Throughout my life, I have had many wonderful opportunities that resulted from my excellent education. It is important to me that my students receive an excellent education to improve their quality of life. In my free time, I enjoy playing guitar and bass, writing fiction, and improving my chess game.

I graduated from Pomona College with a major in Neuroscience and am planning to become a neurological physical therapist. In school, I particularly enjoyed learning about the biological sciences and art. I love to draw and always try to find fun ways to integrate visual learning into my tutoring sessions. I also have experience with the ACT and GRE standardized tests and would love to assist any student who is trying to prepare for success on either. Standardized tests are a drag but studying for them doesn't have to be! I love ice cream and comics and am excited to start working and learning with students in the LA area.

I graduated from the University of Redlands in April 2015 with a B.S. in Chemistry and a B.S. and Biology. I have three years of tutoring experience at the University of Redlands, where I tutored college students in general chemistry, organic chemistry and molecular genetics.I initially began tutoring at the University of Redlands because of my enthusiasm for learning. I am a firm believer that the best way to fully grasp a subject is through teaching. I enjoy the challenge of explaining difficult topics in chemistry and biology in a variety of ways that tailor to each student's unique learning style. Of course I quickly learned that the most rewarding part about being a tutor is seeing your students succeed. It is gratifying to watch students finally grasp a concept that they have been struggling with, or to see their self-confidence rise with your help and encouragement. My passion for teaching, clear communication skills, and ability to build strong, personal relationships with students are essential attributes that make me a successful tutor. I am passionate about education, and I believe that the passion of a teacher directly affects the interest and learning of students. I strive to bring that passion into my tutoring sessions so that students are not only engaged in the topics at hand, but also develop their own interest in the matter. Passionate teaching must also be accompanied by coherent communication. I have learned that an effective tutor is not only excited about the subject, but is also able to convey the information efficiently. My ultimate goal in tutoring is to provide a nourishing environment that allows students to learn and grow intellectually. When I am not studying or tutoring, I enjoy playing golf, watching any sporting event (especially basketball, football and hockey), and spending time with my friends and family and two dogs.

I graduated from Pepperdine University with a degree in Economics and a minor in Spanish. I find economics fascinating and really enjoy talking about the science of the US economy. During college, I spent a year studying in Argentina and came to love South American culture. I'd like to live there again someday. I also like to ski (Tahoe is my favorite place), run on dirt trails around Black Mountain, and read good books. In high school, I enjoyed Algebra and Calculus, and I am most confident tutoring these subjects. I used to look forward to taking Algebra and Calculus tests because my teachers equipped me with the skills I needed to confidently approach tough test questions. This is the vision I have for my students: that they will be prepared with the knowledge that math questions are tough, and that they will have the skills and confidence to find solutions to these problems without fear. Math is hard. It can be one of the most frustrating subjects because so much discipline is required to truly grasp each mathematical concept. Once you've put in the work, math turns out to be a gem among school subjects because it is so rewarding. I'd like to help each of my students experience these joyous moments along his or her scholastic journey.

I am currently a student at Pasadena City College, planning to transfer in 1-2 years. I am pursuing a science degree (I'm considering both Life Sciences and Physical Sciences).I first began tutoring in spring 2014 and immediately fell in love with it; as a college student I myself study with friends/study partners quite frequently. Working with clients feels almost similar to these relaxed and enjoyable - yet highly productive and efficient - study sessions. I find joy in demonstrating to students that these tutoring sessions don't have to feel like tribulation; although I am their tutor, I am also a student just like them so I know how to study (and thus help them study) without burning out.I've tutored students ranging from 3rd grade to high school seniors. For my younger students, I've mainly tutored math fundamentals, Earth Science, writing, and ISEE prep. In addition to tutoring, I've been teaching at an after-school program for exactly one year; this experience gave me the opportunity to teach a class of up to 10 elementary-school kids, developing my ability to attend to various students' needs simultaneously. As a teacher with a more active role, I arranged a curriculum with supplemental topics to complement material being taught to them in school, and as a 3rd-4th grade instructor, I organized many games and "art projects" to familiarize students with the learning material. This job has helped me practice putting together lesson plans based on common core requirements, rather than just using the student's own material. As a tutor, it's not always necessary to supplement the student's schoolwork with additional material, but if appropriate I feel very comfortable creating targeted lesson plans. As for high school students I've mainly tutored Algebra 1, Algebra 2, Geometry, Trigonometry, SAT math prep, Chemistry, and Statistics. I have much experience tutoring high schoolers; in fact the majority of my previous students have been at the high school level. Not being too much older than students of this age range, I find I can relate quite well and I can serve as a role model, exemplifying how well-educated/smart/happy they too can be in 5 years (at my age).I generally prefer tutoring SAT math, Geometry, and Algebra 2; using mathematical reasoning to approach a challenge appeals to me because it's a skill that requires experience. I enjoy helping students reach the answer, emphasizing not the final solution, but instead the process used to find the solution. Being forced to think and solve critically is what expands students' minds and gives them experience mathematically, helping them figure out how to approach problems of all subjects in the future. These math courses incorporate a lot of critical thinking into each problem and that's where the fun is!I believe that all students are entitled to the best education possible, which can be accomplished in a variety of ways. It could mean a weekly tutor to supplement learning, or extra time with a teacher. Regardless of how it is accomplished, a student's access to efficient, individualized education catered specifically to his/her needs can define his/her successes in life. It is my belief that students deserve individualized attention from a single educator who is monitoring that specific student's strengths and weaknesses. A student deserves the best possible shot at life!In my free time I've recently started playing the piano, which also consequently got me into classical music. I sometimes take apart classical pieces on my computer and merge them with others, integrating various composers and styles; music has recently become a great hobby of mine.
