I am UCLA undergraduate student studying Mathematics with a focus on Finance. As you might have guessed, I tutor mathematics, ranging from arithmetic to calculus. My personal favorite is trigonometry, because of how it ties in with circles and bridges geometry with calculus. As I have excelled in math throughout my academic career, I have tutored classmates throughout the years. I enjoy helping people learn, because I think it is how we connect and evolve as people. My belief is that all students have different capacities of learning as well as different approaches to achieve comprehension of study material. As a tutor, I find that I try to find and optimize a student's preferred approach to learning, as it is usually the one that helps a student learn the most in the fastest amount of time possible for them. Be it more practice, or more in-depth explanation of the material, I try several different methods of tutoring to see what clicks with each individual student, and then continue with what works. I believe that it is essential to communicate well with a student, and the only way to understand what they don't understand is by discussing with them what confuses them without any pressure or reproach. I also focus in on areas that students lack mastery of, particularly the basics (such as arithmetic), and add extra review on those subjects, even if it isn't required. I find creating a safe, learning environment with the student essential, especially so that reviewing things that a student feels "they should have known already" doesn't feel embarrassing or reprimanding. When I'm not busy with school or work, I enjoy spending my time with friends watching TV/movies and cooking/eating good food. I am a big tennis fan, and follow most major Olympic sports.

I am a graduate of the University of California Santa Barbara. I received a Bachelor of Arts in Linguistics with an emphasis on Spanish. My experiences in education include tutoring students in a varied range of subjects and teaching English in China. I tutor Spanish and Math, with an immense passion for both! My passion for tutoring comes from the ability to aid a student perform as well as they want to, in the end realizing their full potential and going beyond what they expect of themselves. I firmly believe that every student has the ability to become whom ever they wish to become in their adult lives. My style of tutoring involves discovering which learning style a student is best comfortable with, and providing him or her with the appropriate techniques of learning. In my spare time I enjoy horseback riding, exercising, hiking, gaming, traveling, and looking at the night sky! I love to challenge myself in every aspect of my life and am always more than willing to help someone reach his or her full potential! I am dedicated to the empowerment of others through self-realization.

I have a bachelor's degree in psychology from Southern Adventist University, located in Chattanooga, Tennessee. I worked as a research design, statistics, and general psychology tutor while earning this degree. I am currently in year two of a six year program to earn my PhD in Clinical Psychology. I tutor math, statistics, social sciences, and psychology. I enjoy tutoring math and statistics because I like trying to find new ways to help people understand sometimes complicated concepts. I find that things are easiest to learn if they can be applied to everyday kind of experiences, so I like to try and find ways to tie concepts into daily life. While I spend a lot of my time wrapped up in school, particularly in research and statistics, I also work part time as a therapy intern, and in my free time I love to ride bicycles. I am an avid cyclist, and I enjoy working on my small collection of bicycles when I can find the time.

I am a graduate of Purdue University with my Bachelor's of Science in Biomedical Engineering. I am currently working towards my Master's at the University of Southern California in Medical Device and Diagnostics Engineering. I have experience in mentorship through high school volunteering as a mentor for freshman and other new students at the school. I also have mentorship experience through my roles as Team Leader and Supervisor for Purdue's new student orientation program, Boiler Gold Rush. These mentorship experiences have strengthened my open-minded, positive, patient, and friendly personality. I love meeting and interacting with mew people! I tutor Biomedical Engineering, AP Calculus AB, Calculus, Pre-Calculus, Algebra2, Algebra, Pre-Algebra, Geometry, and Middle School Math. My favorite subject is Calculus (both AP and regular) because it challenges students to integrate multiple concepts and apply them to real situations. Calculus is also inspiring to me because of its real world applications and uses. My tutoring style focuses on how the student learns, not simply what they are learning. I like to figure out how the student effectively learns (are they a visual leaner? more of an auditory learner? a combination of both?) and tailor my tutoring accordingly. Outside of academia, I enjoy golfing, being outdoors, and reading (currently I am fascinated by non-fiction books about viruses and bacteria!).

Despite graduating magna cum laude from a mechanical engineering program on a full scholarship, I didn't always like math and science. It can take a lot of effort to "click" with these kinds of subjects, but once you do, it's a surprisingly rewarding experience. (Yes, I am a huge nerd now. See photo.) You just need to break down the problems, recognize patterns, and apply the concepts. So if you're just required to take a math course and you're sick of having a panic attack every time you look at a problem, or if you're in a STEM program and you are constantly worried that you don't belong there, I can help. I can also help if you just need to review or clarify a subject.

I graduated from University of the Pacific in Stockton, CA with a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology and minors in International Studies & Ethnic Studies. After college, I decided to purse my passion of service and working with youth in the realm of education as I am with my current role as a full-time AmeriCorps volunteer with City Year. Here I tutor middle school aged students in predominately math. Additionally, I have tutoring experience with first grade students in English Language Arts, working with reading comprehension, vocabulary, and fluency. I also have experience teaching English abroad, as I studied abroad in Argentina during my college career. I have worked with, and tutored youth for many years and I simply want to give back. I believe every student, regardless of their zip code, should have the equal access to a high quality education. I have high expectations for all of my students and genuinely believe they will all reach them with perseverance, desire, and maybe a little help from me. I enjoy music, spending time with friends and being in social settings. I am the huge extrovert and love talking and meeting new people.
