I am a recent Yale graduate with a B.S in chemical engineering. I have over 5 years of experience tutoring a wide range of subjects, and I am very passionate about math and science. As a former junior high and high school English teacher, I have taught in both the private and public sector. The majority of my experience has been teaching languages, and although I can teach other subjects, languages and culture are what I truly have a passion for.Through my various experiences, I have taught languages to students ages 4-18 and above, have taught in a classic classroom environment with all the latest technological aides, and taught outdoors through activities, games, and music.I believe that each student is unique and has their own learning style, which is why it can be tough for many students to thrive solely through learning in a typical classroom environment. Tutoring offers a more focused, individualized atmosphere which enables the tutor to tailor the lessons to the student for them to have an optimal learning experience. I have been lucky enough to have many great experience so far in my life. I was a Korean translator in the US Army for eight years. After serving in the Army, I went to Riverside Community College and then San Diego State, where I majored in English and minored in Asian Studies. I've since earned a teaching credential and Master's in Education from National University, and worked as a high school English and Spanish teacher for most of 2001-2013. Outside of “work,” I like to travel and to learn foreign languages. I've traveled a fair bit in Asia and Europe, and hope see South America soon. I live near San Diego State University now, and have lived in Oregon, Pennsylvania, and various places around the country. I also love old cars and reading, especially historical fiction.I can tutor English, Spanish, Social Studies, Math (up through Algebra I), and standardized test preparation. At the charter school, I help middle school and high school students in a wide variety of subjects.
