I am presently a student at the University of Redlands working towards a degree in creative writing. I have a strong background in general language arts and have tutored students of all ages in the past. I enjoy tutoring because I like helping students become comfortable in even the most strenuous academic settings. Since completing the credential program in 2008, I have worked as a high school science teacher at a large private high school in the area. In the six years that I have been teaching, I've had the opportunity to teach a variety of courses including: General Biology, Chemistry, AP Environmental Science, Marine Biology, and Honors Anatomy and Physiology. For the past three years, my focus has been on the latter three courses previously mentioned. Prior to becoming a high school teacher, I worked as an Outdoor Educator at Ocean Institute, and traveled throughout Western Europe teaching English as a Foreign Language classes in Greece, and England. For example, students intimidated by the technical jargon of math often find problems easier to understand when symbols are replaced with words. Through such strategies, I aim to make dense material more communicable and relatable and to provide students with the confidence to accept new challenges.
