Ever since bringing refugee children up to and beyond grade-level mathematics while tutoring in the mid-2000s, I have always been motivated by a spirit of service to community, society, and humanity at large. Teaching and tutoring is one small but essential part of that ethos.

English Tutor • +5 Subjects

I am a graduate of Northeastern University. I received my Bachelor degree in Business Administration with a focus in Marketing and minored in Psychology. Ever since I was a kid, I have traveled extensively due to my father's job. We would move every two years- it was a very exciting but challenging journey. I was born in Argentina then moved to California, Switzerland, Guatemala, New York, Spain, and then Massachusetts. I was lucky enough to attend great schools in these countries and cities, learn from incredible teachers, and get exposed to different languages. I loved school and that became a love for teaching. I have tutored many kids around the world in Spanish, English, and French. I am most passionate about English, especially Writing, ESL, and preparing kids for exams like TOEFL. As someone who was born in a Spanish speaking country and learned languages early on in my life, I have a very deep understanding on how to approach these subjects. I value education and I love children! I have three younger siblings myself, so teaching them has been a constant hobby of mine! I love the feeling of seeing children grow academically. I look forward to getting to know your children :)

Hello! I am a scientist at heart, but I am comfortable in teaching nearly all academic subjects. I have a BA and MS from the University of Connecticut where I majored in Ecology and Evolutionary Biology, and minored in English. I spent several years working in various scientific research laboratories throughout University, and worked hard to ultimately publish my work in the Journal of Mammalogy in 2013. I began my teaching career upon entering Graduate school. I first taught biology laboratories at the University of Connecticut, and then went on to teach 6th and 7th grade Science in Hartford, CT one year later. I have recently moved to Sturbridge, MA, where I was hired as a tutor at The Grow School, and have now moved into a permanent substitute teacher position. I also, temporarily, spent two months teaching full-time in a third grade classroom. I am very knowledgeable and passionate about so many of the science fields, but also about teaching and learning. I have found teaching to be immensely rewarding, and I am confident I could help a person of any age to reach their true academic potential. Since my teaching background is diverse, regarding both age ranges and subjects, I have a suite of techniques for individualized learning. I am happy to find out what works best to help you learn!

AP French Tutor • +21 Subjects

I have been informally tutoring my classmates in French since I began studying the language, about six years ago. I would help them understand grammar and pronunciation mainly in the beginning stages of learning the language. I was hired last year as the French tutor at my college and I have experience tutoring students in beginning and intermediate level French. I am very comfortable with the language and my experience has shown me what does and what does not work when tutoring a student. I have also attended several lectures regarding the ways in which students learn, which I incorporate into all of my tutoring sessions. I believe that my general experience studying and teaching a foreign language has prepared me to be able to tutor Mandarin Chinese also, as I have been studying that for three years. As for French tutoring, I tend to focus on classwork if a student is struggling with a specific area in their current lesson. With more advanced students, I like to hold conversations with them to expose their linguistic ability and help them speak the language more comfortably and naturally. I recently had the privilege of taking two years of cultural immersion courses at the Alliance Franaise de Chicago, and I have been to France multiple times, so I am very familiar with French and Francophone culture. I sometimes like to explore current events in the French world if I am having a conversation with a student. I can teach lessons around French and francophone film, literature, and music. In Mandarin, I have experience speaking with friends and acquaintances completely in Mandarin. Living in Chicago has given me access to Chinatown, a wonderful neighborhood overflowing with rich Chinese culture that I have been exposed to since birth.Currently I am a sophomore at Beloit College, majoring in International Relations and French, and minoring in Mandarin Chinese. I am working towards an undergraduate degree, which will be followed by a graduate degree. I am anticipating studying abroad in the future in both China and France in an effort to use those languages to study International Relations. Outside of school, my favorite thing to do is travel. There is no better way to understand another culture than to visit it. I also like to cook, take pictures, and explore Chicago.

I am from Munster, IN, and I obtained my BS in Biomedical Engineering from Purdue University. I am currently a third year medical student at Indiana University School of Medicine. During my free time, I love to play sports, especially basketball. I also like to sing, play the piano and read mystery novels. As an undergraduate, I tutored first-year engineering students in Chemistry, Biology, Physics and Mathematics. Of these subjects, Chemistry and Math were especially exciting to teach. I enjoy tutoring because it provides me with an opportunity to guide students through the same academic struggles I faced as a student. I believe that all students have the ability to master any concept if they are willing to put in the effort. Thus, as a tutor, I strive to create an environment where students can build confidence, communicate comfortably, and are motivated to learn. I tutor MCAT, Geometry, Algebra I and II, Calculus I and II, Physics, Chemistry and Biology.

Tutoring can be hard for any struggling student . But that's not the way it has to be. I like to start my sessions in a stress free environment. I'd like for the student to see me as a mentor and friend, that way trust between us will lead to a favorable learning environment.Once this has been done, we will start by identifying strengths and deficiencies. This will enable us to create a strategy meant for success, coupled with a little humor here and there, some flashcards and relating the subject matter to everyday life, there's no way on earth that we won't achieve and even surpass the set goal. This is the reason I like to explain everything starting from the basic concepts up to the most complicated, because once the student has mastered the basics and all the information is understood and not just memorized, the rest will be as easy as pie.A little info about me, I've earned an MD degree and I'm currently working in cancer research at UTHSCSA, which fortunately for the students and myself, means my grasp on cellular biology, molecular biology, physiology, pathophysiology, anatomy and all basic medical sciences is right on point and as fresh as the nicest looking lettuce at a farmer's market.I'm also certified by the ECFMG, which means that I've passed all my basic and clinical science exams, this will allow me to apply for a medical residency in the US.Having studied and mastered the required subjects for my certification also means I have a firm grasp on biology and core science concepts. All my educational formation allows me to understand each student's situation, because I've honestly been there, sitting at the library staring into the book and then into oblivion because the information looks so complicated. But there is light at the end of the tunnel, with perseverance from both of us and a desire to advance, we can make it and excel.I'm also a native espaol speaker, which fortunately for me, means I can also help anyone with basic language skills and even the most complicated spanish classes, essay writing, literature and just plain learning to speak spanish.I look forward to working with anyone that's looking to learn and get ahead.
