Who am I? I am a dedicated and competent instructor, and a professional visual and performing artist. I am fluent in English, Spanish, and French, and have a dual Master's Degree in International Relations (modern languages focus) and Music (ethnomusicology focus), as well as a certificate in Teaching English as a Foreign Language Certificate.Through great insistence, people all too often convince themselves that they are poor at learning languages or other skill areas. In my experience, this is rarely the case and is the product of prior weak teaching and a failure to instill confidence in the student, resulting in a skewed self-perception that has little to do with reality. An experienced student of languages and other subjects myself, I can help you develop the foundational skills in any of my competencies, guaranteeing results through a method that draws upon not only upon a solid knowledge base, but also a refined way of re-thinking the subject or language. This rethinking of subject matter, regardless of the topic at hand, combines traditional techniques with a rational yet intuitive and comparative method, melding them into a multi-sensory approach to learning. I believe that true learning necessarily involves the entire mind and body, and being more true to the way an individual would acquire a information in an immersion or natural setting. Through these means recall is ultimately made stronger and more intuitive. I am comfortable working with all ages, child through adult, and with all experience levels.Teaching at an intensive English language program for two years, I have worked with individuals from all backgrounds. I have provided instruction from very basic levels through to highly proficient and advanced levels in speaking, grammar, writing , reading, and listening. I have also helped students with their professional preparedness and job readiness training, and how frequently served as a proofreader for pre-publication manuscripts.

When helping students I enjoy the look in their faces when they finally understand something they were struggling with. The best thing while teaching is that I also learn with them and grow as a person as well as an instructor. I am currently studying at the University of Tampa with a major in Art Therapy and minor in Psychology. I was born and raised in Puerto Rico where the main language is Spanish. I am a sweet, caring, and loving person that understands the struggle of people that have hard time concentrating. That being said, I look forward to being a patient and understanding tutor to help learn the great language of Spanish!

Conversational French Tutor • +35 Subjects

Hello/bonjour/hola!My name is Hacne, I am French and happy to live in Washington DC since April of 2016. I teach French and Spanish and also work as a professional translator; foreign languages and education have always been a real passion for me since a long time.French is my native language, I have learnt Spanish for 10 years and also spent an unforgettable year in Latin America (Chile and Mexico), where I could become totally fluent in Spanish. I was also a part-time French teacher, beside my studies. In France, I also tutored during my studies in an association helping students with school difficulties, in both English and Spanish. After graduated in 2010 with a Master's Degree of International Trade, I worked in Africa as a translator and sales developer, and still have been able to teach French as a part-time activity. After around 3 years spent in Africa for work, I moved to DC and decided to dedicate myself to activities I really enjoy doing, teaching/tutoring and translating.I think that learning a foreign language is much more than applying grammar rules, it's a complete cultural experience, it's about adopting a new way of thinking and understand other people.Oh and of course, impressing your family and friends with your new skills is also a very good reason to learn...Speaking and understanding a different language is for me a unique sensation, just like seeing students improving and succeeding thanks to my classes. After many experiences as a teacher but also as a student of foreign languages, I understood how a person has his own approach to learning and process new information. We'll focus on your goals, on how we could erase your difficulties and on the progress achieved. I will focus on adapting my way to teach to your way of learning, to build with you self-confidence. I am open-minded, have patience and humour, and we can use of originals lesson materials if it makes you learn better!

Hello, my name is Kristina and I have been involved in tutoring for the past 9 years. I received my undergraduate degree from Illinois Wesleyan University. There I studied both Biology and Spanish including participating in a study abroad program in Quito, Ecuador which allowed me to travel to the Amazon rainforest as well as the Galapagos Islands. I really enjoy traveling and also backpacked in Europe for 5 months after I graduated experiencing the rich history and meeting amazing and diverse people. I then moved out to the west coast to pursue my love of Marine Biology and earned a Master's degree in Marine Science from the University of Oregon. While in graduate school as well as studying oysters, the focus of my thesis research, I was also teaching hands-on Marine Science in a local elementary school.I then moved south to San Francisco where I had been working for three years working in informal science education. I love working with students and passing on my love and knowledge of Science and Spanish. I have been tutoring or teaching in both subjects since college and I am excited to continue to do so after moving back to Illinois! I especially enjoy tutoring because it allows a closer connection with the student than in a large classroom setting. I enjoy sharing my experience and enthusiasm with student while also helping them progress toward their academic goals. Outside of my love of Biology and Spanish I also love playing tennis, rock climbing, watching movies and TV and I have a new found enthusiasm for biking.

I am a passionate educator with 8 years of experience working in public schools in New York City and abroad. I received my Master's of Education in Bilingual Childhood Education, and am currently working on my 2nd Master's in School Counseling.I have taught in elementary bilingual classrooms, with students of varied grades, language proficiency levels, and abilities. This has driven me to find creative solutions to meet the needs of every student. I develop and implement curriculum (in both Spanish and English) through engaging activities, nurturing critical thinking skills, and adapting concepts to student's diverse learning styles.I believe learners who are pushed to become independent, critical, and socially conscious thinkers, will take ownership and pride of their learning, becoming change agents and role models in their communities. I am deeply committed to providing the highest levels of academic and behavioral support to each of my students, and strive to ensure that each student is on track to graduate from high school, continue to college, and pursue fulfilling careers. While I tutor a broad range of subjects, I am most passionate about College Access, Spanish, Math, and Literacy.

I am an educator passionate about language, literature, growth mindset and youth development. My favorite thing about teaching is watching students' progress academically as well as emotionally. I believe building confidence is just as important as building academic skills. I currently teach English as a Second a Language, however I am a licensed elementary school teacher and have had experience with all ages through my work at City Year (an education based non profit) and at YMCA Camp Minikani (where I served as a counselor and camp director). I love English and Social Studies most (specifically reading and writing in content areas) but have also loved teaching math and science! In my free time I enjoy being outdoors, spending time with family and friends, meditating, doing yoga, running, and learning to play guitar. I look forward to meeting and working with you!
