We've had the BEST experience with VT! Our tutor has helped my middle schoolers math grades come up from a D to an A for our 8th grader and from a D to a B for my 6th grader. I'm beyond pleased with how she connected with my boys.

I got to know the student, and his background in French. He walked me through several of his writing assignments for his online class to prepare for the French AP exam. We worked on improving his sentence structure, which is already very good. We also worked on different ways to say certain things, to avoid being repetitive.

The student and I made a lot of progress today. We reviewed all of the flash cards she had made on the cell, photosynthesis, population density, growth curves and her lab classes. I amended the ones that needed some more detail and specific examples. We then finished her review sheet by making flash cards on osmosis, diffusion, global warming, the green house effect, pollutants, homeostasis, metabolism, passive vs. active transport and the difference between ionic and covalent bonding. She seems quite determined to do well on this exam. She has a lot of flash cards to memorize but I am confident she will be able to do so by Monday.

I started this session with the student by helping him with his homework.  His homework was over personal pronouns, party and family vocabulary, and the verb tener. The student showed that he has an excellent command over the vocabulary of his current chapter and has a full understanding of the conjugations of tener in the present tense.  As we worked through his homework, he became much more comfortable with personal pronouns and understanding when to use the different conjugations of tener.  After finishing his homework, he and I went over the difference between possessive pronouns such as my, your and his; and other pronouns such as I, you, and she.  He struggled with this distinction at first, but as the session came to an end, the student showed a good understanding of when and how to utilize personal pronouns and other pronouns.

The student and I worked on solving rational inequalities.  We also covered parabolas, writing the equation of parabolas in standard form, finding the vertex, finding the focus, finding the axis of symmetry, and finding the directrix.  She took notes so that she could remember the concepts after the session.

I worked with both sisters on the respective tests that are coming up  for them.  One student and I reviewed a practice AP World History test and came up with a plan for her to redo it. The other student and I went over genetics for her upcoming test in school, along with the AP and SAT subject tests. This helped us cover probability as well.
