Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student asked me to make a review sheet for her with symbols, definitions, and formulas she would need for the test, so I did that this morning before our meeting. During our session, the student and I continued studying for her test, reviewing all the materials from the first three units, focusing particularly on calculating probability, deviation, central tendency, t-scores, and z-scores."
"We talked about how the class has been going for her so far: she has an 82% in the class and received a C- on the last quiz. Her teacher has not gone over it yet, but that could elucidate some of the answers. She says she struggles with free response and how to word her answers and that is where she frequently misses points. This session we went over her homework for class on Friday to get a feel for where she's at in the class. We found that she sometimes tends to over-complicate answers and are working towards keeping them within the confines of the problems as well as more basic. She finished all her homework this session. For next time I asked that she bring any questions she encounters in class, on the test, in the book, and on homework so that we can focus in more specifically where needed."
"We went over her last test, and corrected her mistakes. We also went through all the vocabulary and cleared up the definitions. I explained that statistics is unlike any other math and would require her to do a lot of reading and analyzing of data. She completed her homework that will be handed in as a quiz grade, and I left her with reading the next section in the book to prepare and gain a familiarity with the new information before the teacher starts to cover it in class."
"We went finished covering Chapter 2, specifically on variance and standard deviation. After covering the important concepts of Chapter 2, we went through some homework problems together relating to chapter 2. During the session, she told me her quiz 1 score and she did very well (10/10). After the session, I told her to try and finish the rest of the homework on her own and by the next session, we will discuss it. Overall the session was excellent."
"This was our first session. We covered a lot of review material and moved forward with some material that will be on the midterm exam which is coming up in a few days. We will hopefully have time to schedule an extra review session in before his midterm."
"We went over continuous and discrete variables throughout various distributions. The student had the formulas, but had trouble applying them in actual questions. We went over a previous test question. I showed him how to interpret his teacher's questions and use the right information to answer the questions. We then went over utilizing calculus in statistics to answer questions. He was able to comprehend the usage when dealing with binomial and linear distributions. I sent him a study guide to use to help decipher future questions."
