Recent East Palo Alto Tutoring Session Notes
We specifically covered Mean, Median, and Mode. Both students were open and engaged during the session. Student 1 was struggling the most with identifying the value of X from a given set of data and its average. We worked through given problems on a worksheet and extra problems from online sources. We will continue to go over this in future sessions. With Student 2, we reviewed the homework, as well. She had difficulties as well. It helped to do conceptual problems from outside sources after finishing the homework. We will focus on this again next week.

We worked on the practice test at the end of the chapter and reviewed missed homework problems. We worked for a while on absolute value so the student should feel confident in that aspect.

We focused on practice problems for the reading and writing sections of the SAT. The student seems to be really well prepared already! We talked through some strategies, and reviewed some grammar and vocabulary.

Today, we worked on forces, acceleration, and velocity graphs. I included strategies to simplify the material.

The student and I worked on math for most of this session. We worked on integers with addition, multiplication, and subtraction. She did well with this activity. She was able to answer 44 out of 50 correctly. We also did some reading to give her a break from math for a bit. To end the session, we worked on a math riddle. For the next session, we will continue to work on integers.

Today, the student and I went over his Algebra review. He has an upcoming exam tomorrow, so he completed the review his teacher gave him. I was particularly proud of him because I had him complete it almost independently. We both had clean reviews, and we each worked on a problem at the same time (as this would help me explain it to him if he had questions), and he would usually be done before me, with 100% accuracy! This just told me that he truly understood the concept. Overall, he did a fabulous job on this unit's review!
