Tutoring review by Rachel in Ridgewood, NJ
This week we reviewed material about angles and transformations. The student made flashcards for definitions and rules that he needs to memorize for his test. He should practice with them for five minutes every night. His other assignment this week is to finish the last page of the parallel lines and transversals sheet and "Find the missing vertical angles."

Tutoring review by Eileen in Ridgewood, NJ
Yesterday when I arrived, the student had been practicing w/the 30 flashcards I'd purchased for her. As such, I proceeded to "quiz" her. Of the dozen words that were designated "difficult," I assigned her these 7 to work on for this week: they, this, who, now, like, are & all. After I had her write this list in my student journal writing book, we reviewed the Dora adventure Book #1 emphasizing the "short a" and read a couple of new pgs. We then learned the vowels with a little song and broke up a few words according to their syllables. We'll continue to do more of this for faster fluency. Finally, we had her choose a panel for the spelling tiles. Although she was struggling w/the word "rug," she got it when I shared a variety of rhyming words w/her. It really was an excellent session!

Today we worked on forces and torque. The student struggled only slightly when setting up some problems. His attitude was positive and he remained engaged in the material throughout the session. I included strategies to simplify the material.

Tutoring review by Ben in Ridgewood, NJ
The student got a 96% on her make-up quiz and continued to show independence and improved attentiveness in our session today. Right triangles with common ratios for side lengths based on radicals (45-45-90 and 30-60-90) were kind of tricky on Tuesday. However, her teacher's reinforcement of the formatting (ex. no radicals in the denominator) was very helpful, and her work looked much more consistent today as a result. We went through a review of all of sections 5.7 and 5.8 for her quiz the next day.

Tutoring review by Sarah in Ridgewood, NJ
Today we continued to work on trigonometry, specifically, the unit circle. This is one of the more challenging parts of trig and the student is picking it up quite well. After explaining the concept with the circle, triangles, and the actual sin and cos graphs, I gave her a few strategies for deciphering the circle more efficiently in a test setting. We spent the rest of the time reviewing the conversion of radians to degrees (and vice versa) of special angles. Great session!
