The Meadowlands Museum is a must-see attraction in the Rutherford area. The museum is actually an early 19th-century farmhouse that has been restored to preserve one of the few remaining homes of that era. Now a registered historic site, the location houses several exhibits. The exhibits include a Steampunk and the Victorian Age exhibit, which displays Victorian items as well as crafted steampunk items collected from artists. It also has the Around the World in 80 Days exhibit, which is a photographic expedition that uses the cameras from the museum, including a stereoscope camera. Additionally, there is an exhibit focusing on healthcare in the Meadowlands region in the early to mid-1900s. Showcasing medical supplies, exam tables, and medicines from the era, the house is a journey back in time that you will remember for years to come.

Just a five-minute drive away in Lyndhurst is Medieval Times, which offers a unique dining experience that is like no other. You can take a trip to medieval times while dining in this replica of an 11th-century castle. During a four course meal, guests can enjoy watching a two-hour jousting tournament between six knights on beautiful horses. The joust culminates in the releasing of the royal falcon in honor of the winner. One thing is for sure; this is no ordinary restaurant!

Tutoring review by Alexandra in Rutherford, NJ
The student and I met today and reviewed the assignments she has recently been given as homework. She had a few questions on how to multiply integers by fractions (I explained how to treat an integer as a fraction over one). I also emphasized the differences between multiplying fractions and adding fractions and how you multiply across for multiplication but have to keep the common denominator for addition. We practiced with a number of these problems. Additionally, we continued to work with increasingly complex PEMDAS problems as well as solving for the variable when the variable is placed within the equation. She continues to do well with these problems and it will simply be a matter of ensuring that she retains and internalizes these rules as she progresses in the subject.

I began our session discussing each child's learning environment. I then spoke with the children as a group and discussed some of the things they need help on and where their academic interests lie. Finally, I met with the students individually and learned a little about how their school works and what techniques we could use to improve their grades.

Tutoring review by Lindsey in Rutherford, NJ
The student had to finish preparing for a quiz based on simplifying square roots, some of which are perfect and some of which are not perfect square roots. This process involves finding the greatest factor of the number under the square root sign that is a perfect square and then simplifying. Other problems on the quiz involved solving other types of problems with square roots, requiring the student to use distribution, FOIL, combining like terms, factoring out a common factor, rules of fractions and exponents.

The student had a practice test online that looked similar to a recent test that he'd taken. So today, I went over every problem on the practice test with him. After that, we looked at work pertaining to a quiz he will have on Thursday regarding integers. We went over classwork he got and then in the last few minutes of our session I had him try out some games to practice his knowledge, especially with adding negative numbers together.

Tutoring review by Allison in Rutherford, NJ
This was the first session with the student. I met with his mother and him to discuss their goals for the tutoring. We started working on reviewing multiplication because he is struggling with division in an enrichment math class due to not fully grasping multiplication. I determined that the student is very smart, and catches onto the patterns very quickly for multiplication, which will be helpful. I left the student with an extra practice worksheet to work on over the week.
