The student finished up his large take-home packet today, and he made a good start on his summer review packet. He should be able to fly through most of the second packet, as he showed great aptitude for basic algebra skills, mental math, and graphic conversions. He could recall specific parts of instruction from his classes that allowed him to complete the problems easily. He should continue to finish up his summer reading packet, as he knows just about everything covered in it.

Today we reviewed Algebra (expressions and equations and teach what an expression is and what an equation is). We practiced writing expressions with symbols and with variables and finding a number to replace the variable or symbol in an equation. Then the student had to complete a practice worksheet on his own. He had to write an expression to show the relationships in a story problem; and solve an equation with a number missing from it.

The student and I finished the final page of his review packet, which dealt with proportions and ratios. We will continue to work on his final exam review in our next session as well.

We discussed the results of his CLEP test. Then, we reviewed various verbs and verb tenses on an educational app. We read and interpreted some dialogues. We wrapped up our last session with discussing the future. I suggested some classes and apps which would help them keep up in French. We also discussed travel plans.

We reviewed the aspects of central tendency in statistics (mean, median, and mode). The student did not seem to struggle with any of the material, and only needed help with clarification on a few of the homework problems we were working on. He has shown strong positivity and dedication to understanding the material and working through each problem efficiently. At the end of the session, he had one more page of homework practice to finish.

For this session, the student and I focused on multiplying, dividing, adding and subtracting fractions. He showed definite improvement with his calculations. More practice in this area will be given to him to make sure he doesn't make mental errors with his signs or numbers. After working out these problems, we focuses on working on problems for his upcoming ISEE test in January. Due to his taking the upper level exam, there were a lot of problems the he didn't understand. However, we went over each problem and I explained to him how to work the problem if he sees them again.
