The student finally took full sections, and scored 36s on both science and math. He still has some issues with Reading, so we talked through those a bit, and then he was able to get a 35 there. He's taking a complete test before we meet next so that I can see his 35 or 36 on English too :)

I started the session by going over vocabulary words with the student. For the rest of the hour we focused on complex rate problems and solved them using strategies I had taught her. The next hour we did exercises focused on the perfect tenses and the gerund vs. the infinitive. Finally, during this last hour we reviewed her answers to writing section questions. I also gave her a review sheet for the reading and writing sections.

The student and I met for a one-hour session the night before his first day of school. This was our first weekday meeting. During our previous session, he was rather unprepared and had failed to do quite a lot of his homework assignments and was lagging behind on vocabulary memorization. He was much more prepared this session and had taken two practice tests between Friday and Tuesday as well as had done his analogy homework that I assigned. During this session, we moved on to discussing synonyms. He continues to need to focus on his vocabulary and root words, but his scores on his practice tests are improving when he slows down and thinks about how to approach problems.

We went over a practice test she took on her own during her absence, and we did so somewhat successfully. We did a few science passages with some verbal coaching, and then took a full science passage test. We will review it next time.

Online SAT Subject Test in Modern Hebrew Tutoring review by Adam
The student practiced the process by which he can maximize his points on the reading section by first reading the passage with a passion to maximize comprehension, then reading the question and thinking of a potential answer. Then he either found the answer or something similar to it, or he used the process of elimination to narrow down the choices. If the correct answer still was not obvious, he would skip that question to come back to later. In the last stage of the process, he would go back to the skipped questions and refer to the portions of the passage that would provide additional insight into which of the remaining choices is correct. He would guess from the choices left to maximize his potential for getting points from these questions. All of this done extremely briskly, as the time requirements are very demanding for this section. He did a good job for this initial session.
