SAT Subject Test in Chinese with Listening Tutoring FAQ
Demonstrating high performance in a foreign language can be a huge asset to your application during the college admissions process. If you have strong Mandarin Chinese skills, the SAT Subject Test in Chinese with Listening can help you highlight this aspect of your academic profile and present yourself as a well-rounded candidate for admission to your preferred school. It may be intimidating to face this exam, considering that it can test just about anything you may have learned in two years worth of introductory Mandarin Chinese coursework. Such apprehension about the exam can lead you to procrastinate studying and then panic as your test date approaches. Even when you do jump right into preparing for the exam, you may find yourself uncertain of what to study. After all, you may need to not only review the concepts your classes have already covered, but you may also need to work to master new topics. Trying to meet both of these test-prep goals on your own can cause a lot of stress.
You may need to spend a lot of time locating and curating appropriate and reliable resources, as well as seeking out explanations and feedback on your work. In addition, it's extremely difficult to improve your Mandarin Chinese listening skills on your own without a partner for conversation. In a traditional classroom setting, you may find that your teacher passes quickly through concepts that you need to focus on, only to focus your attention on those that you are well familiar with. These can cause massive gaps in the knowledge of the classroom, whether it's you or even the kid who seems to grasp everything the teacher says. You can use Varsity Tutors to get connected with Mandarin Chinese tutors from all over the globe.
When you call Varsity Tutors, their educational directors are able to help you craft a thorough student profile that allows potential tutors a chance to look at your specific needs and identify their ability to meet them. Your profile can inform a tutor of your learning style, course syllabus, concerns, goals, past testing dates, previous instruction, and more. With this, as well as ongoing tutoring sessions with you, your tutor can craft a flexible tutoring plan. This plan need not waste time asking you to demonstrate your knowledge of topics that you've already mastered; instead, you and your tutor can work through focused exercises to bolster the skills you most need to improve before test day.
A personal tutor can help you streamline your review with one-on-one tutoring for the SAT Subject Test in Chinese with Listening. SAT Subject Test tutoring can be custom tailored with each student's specific strengths and weaknesses in mind. Recent SAT Subject Test in Chinese with Listening Tutoring Session Notes
The student and I worked on Math and Reading sections today. It was apparent that as soon as we started reviewing his performance on these sections, he has become more apt to handle answering correctly in a timed testing environment. A much higher percentage of both his Math and English questions were answered correctly and I am happy to see that he is making good progress. He is almost ready to take his first full practice exam.
Today the student and I went over the all of the sections, focusing on strategies she had learned from a previous tutor and adjusting those as necessary. The student does very well in all the sections, but has difficulty with focus in reading. Because she was omitting so many answers due to her disinclination to read all the passages, we talked about strategies to lessen the amount of reading and give her more frequent breaks. She liked the idea of reading just the first and last line of each paragraph and going back to details only as necessary. This way she doesn't omit as many answers she would normally answer correctly. She did very well in the math, only encountering a few questions with which she had conceptual difficulty. We went through the writing section together and I showed her the best way to approach problems and find common grammatical errors.
The student is coming along well, though her confidence in her own performance remains an issue. At the beginning of most sessions, she tells me how hard the ACT science section is. By the end, we've worked through many of the problems and concepts and demonstrated that she does, indeed, know how to complete the section and to do it well. We're working in building her confidence and her mastery at the same time and coming along well on both.
The student and I discussed the English section of his practice ACT and reviewed any incorrect responses. Then, we began looking at the math section; I explained how to do any missed problems. For homework, he will be working on the English section of practice test 2.
The student had completed practice test one before the first session, and we went over her answers during our session. She did really well - she only got a couple questions wrong. We went through practice test two, sections two and four (math and reading) together and discussed test-taking strategies. Next time we are going to work on math and the essay.
We practiced English, reading, and science passages to assess his strengths and weaknesses in each section. For science, he does well on data representation questions, needs to improve focus on conflicting viewpoints questions, and struggles a bit with research summary questions. As for English, he has a solid understanding of grammar/mechanics, but can improve on rhetorical skills (organization, style, etc.). Lastly, his difficulties in the reading section stem from limited comprehension.
