I am very happy with our experience so far with Varsity Tutors. They matched my daughter with reading specialist Mary and she is wonderful! My 10 year old daughter feels happy after her sessions and believes her tutor has already helped her.

Certified Tutor

My experience in teaching or tutoring is mostly related to the Hebrew language, but I have also worked with high school students struggling with English in regards to writing essays, grammar, and vocabulary. I have an Associates Degree in Hebrew, which has given me extensive experience in the realm of languages- especially in the realm of learning and teaching techniques. I also have an Associates Degree in Intelligence Studies and Technologies through my training and experience in the military. I am currently finishing my Bachelors Degree in Middle Eastern Studies, which focus in International Relations courses as well as History, Religion, Geography, and the impact of regional conflicts. Once I am finished with this program, I plan on moving on to law school and possibly applying my experience to international trade law.
Im passionate about a broad range of subjects that include history, politics, literature, and languages. I love to read, and enjoy various crafts like sewing, embroidery, and candle making. Im very creative and am very passionate in debate of just about any kind; I think that a healthy debate isnt an argument, its a sharing of ideas and ideals through discussion! It can be a powerful means of teaching when its constructive. My service in the Air Force has given me a degree of structure, but I mostly enjoy informal learning environments- Ive found that it removes pressure and allows for confidence to grow. For the purpose of this site, my particular expertise is anything English, to include literature, grammar and syntax, proficiency in writing, literacy (young and adult), and English as a second language. Because of my linguistic background, I am also available to teach Hebrew. As I get more comfortable, I will expand my range of subjects in order to work with a broader range of students in Geography and U.S. History; perhaps as time goes by Ill be able to do more!
I am excited to be working with Varsity Tutors because I believe that everyone has the capacity to learn and I want to help students reach their full potential! I understand frustrations and that some students need some extra one-on-one attention. I have a daughter with Down Syndrome, which has given me a unique perspective on how differently each person learns. It has also taught me the importance of patience and positive reinforcement in the learning process. Its incredibly important to me to know my potential students so that I can better teach them in a way that will be most effective to them. I understand, I empathize, I care about making sure that time spent with me in a learning environment reaches its maximum potential, as well as the students I work with. Every student is special to me, and I see it as a personal investment not only in the future of my student, but the future of our society.

Hobbies

I love to read, watch movies, and just about anything crafting- I make candles, sew, and embroider. However, traveling is by far my greatest hobby. I've been to Dubai, Jordan, Israel, Mexico, Honduras, Belize, and Colombia. I still have a big list of places to go, but I don't think that will ever get tired of adding more to that list! I love to try new things and am all about new experiences.
