I am a graduate from Lawrence University where I received by Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology and Gender Studies. Currently I am a Master's student at the University of Minnesota-Twin Cities in Counseling Psychology. I hope to become a counselor for high school and college students. While studying abroad in Amsterdam, I tutored English, and during college, I tutored students in French. I also enjoy helping fellow classmates edit and revise their college papers. My favorite subject though is Psychology. I believe students should be given every opportunity to learn and should be excited to learn, and I look forward to encouraging students in their learning. I will guide students, but I believe it is up to them to discover the right answer. In my spare time I like reading, being with my friends, and watching the occasional television show. In Minneapolis, I'm looking forward to attending football and hockey games.

I have always had a passion for working with young people. I worked for the Baton Rouge Youth Coalition throughout my entire college career helping students in math. One of my greatest joys was seeing my students improve academically and celebrating with them as they gained admission to the colleges of their dreams. My involvement with the young people at BRYC as a teacher, mentor, and friend over the years has been some of the most meaningful work I have been involved in and I would love to continue that work with students in Houston.I had the opportunity to teach a section of Honors 1000 undergraduate students which made me more sensitive to the needs of college students academically and socially and my first job out of college involved working with young people at the Posse Foundation as a Trainer. In that role I served as a mentor, counselor, tutor, college advisor, and friend. I developed and strengthened many of my skills at that time including my skills at facilitating workshops and developing lesson plans, my verbal, written, and public speaking communication skills, time management, and my ability to organize and prioritize tasks in a dynamic working environment with people from diverse backgrounds.I believe that my skill set and experience working with young people would be particularly helpful in working as a Varsity Tutor and I am hopeful that I will be able to share my knowledge with you. What matters to me most is that my students learn how to learn, because, in today's world, their success will depend on their willingness to explore and master new skills.I have been an educator for a very long time. I retired from a school district a few years back and, since then have been traveling around the world and working online with clients and students. This way, I can do what I love (teaching) while doing the other things I love (traveling and learning new languages).

I am a BYU student, an am currently working toward a bachelor's degree in Chemistry. As a student, I have found that I respect teachers more when they can understand the questions posed by my fellow students. I think that it is important to find out what a student knows before trying to teach a new concept. That way any misconceptions can be cleared up at the beginning, instead of fighting against them for weeks or even longer. I have taken classes in Chemistry, Physics, Calculus, and Writing, and believe that understanding students is one of my strengths.

I currently am a Senior at the University of Texas at Austin and am working towards a Bachelor of Science and Arts degree in Biology. I completed the full IB program when I was in high school. I took higher-level Biology, Chemistry, and Business and Management, and standard-level French, Math, and English.
