Algebra Tutoring review by Isak in Folsom, CA
I met with Student 1 and went over the material he was going over for class. He's going over radicals. He grasped the concepts well and was pretty confident in it. We did practice problems for that hour. The next hour, I met with Student 2 and we mostly went over the rules for logarithms while using them to solve problems. After some practice and explanation, she started to memorize most of the rules. I could tell she grew more comfortable with the log rules as we went along, and was able to complete challenging problems.

We covered substitution, and elimination problems that the student will be having on a test tomorrow. He has an excellent attitude about the math he is doing. He said that he really didn't understand it after he learned it in class, but that he understands it much better now after we worked on his practice problems. I showed him some different ways to approach these problems, and I think it helped him to understand them better. I look forward to seeing what his test score is going to be next week!

The student and I covered the study guide for her test tomorrow. We went over all the problems and redid the ones she had trouble with. We also talked about her previous assessment and talked about any problems she may have had with it. The shorter time limit really helped and I think we had a productive session. I look forward to hearing about how her test goes, I think she'll do great!

Algebra Tutoring review by Valentina in Folsom, CA
This session was very productive as the student and I completed her math homework and studied for French and biology. She is having a much easier time with math and I think that with continued reinforcement of new concepts she will have a great foundation for the future. I can also see her enjoying the subject much more. In French, she needs practice in writing and pronunciation, with writing perhaps being the most relevant to her grade.

Algebra Tutoring review by Kasra in Folsom, CA
In today's session with the student, we reviewed graphing quadratic functions and solving quadratic equations using square roots. Even though the student did not struggle with any particular material, he struggled even more than usual with his focus. Though I do attribute that to the fact that he does not have school tomorrow, and thus did not having anything to look forward to, it was still very tough to keep him on track. Nevertheless, we did our best to stay on task and work through the material. Our biggest focus was on the steps required to graph quadratic functions. After going through the steps and practicing a few problems, I can safely say the student can handle any quadratic graphing function he sees. Seeing as the student is now on vacation from school for the next 5 days, I did not leave him with any extra practice. I did not see any scores or grades to note progress, but the student is reaching the end of this chapter, and so he is bound to have a test soon. When I see him next, we will work on preparing him for that. Overall, my only concern from this session is the student's focus. I believe he needs to practice more discipline when it comes to dividing his time for schoolwork and for pleasure. There is time for work, and there is time for play, and I believe the student needs to practice his focus more in order to keep these times separate. Still, we will work on this moving forward, and I look forward to seeing the student again next week.

Algebra Tutoring review by Zoheb in Folsom, CA
The first student and I worked on a review sheet for a math exam. I was there just to teach him tips and tricks on multiple choice questions (often you don't have to solve the question you just need to point out which answer is possible), how to make arithmetic easier with the modulus operation I taught him, and how to add fractions. He did well and should do well on this test with enough practice. I taught the second student the distributive property of multiplication today. I used it to make progress on her intensive math studies. We used this show her how to multiply polynomials and multiply numbers easily, but she still needs practice writing the math out. I'll try to get her up to speed in that class (it seems to be a Pre-Calculus or Algebra 2 equivalent), but she'll have to practice hard and work to make math intuitive.
