I am a 2012 graduate of The Pennsylvania State University. During my time at Penn State, I studied Secondary Education with a concentration in English and Communications. This focus allowed me to study literature, intensive writing, theatre, journalism, and other topics. As part of my program, I was able to travel to London for a summer abroad, learning from the works of Shakespeare and Virginia Woolf. I am currently enrolled in graduate school at The University of Pittsburgh to receive a graduate degree in Education and a certification as a teacher of the blind and visually impaired. Since my graduation from Penn State, I have worked as an English teacher where I instruct high school aged students in British literature, American literature, public speaking, career skills, braille, and functional academics. In this position, I have discovered a passion for providing high interest materials to students to help increase reading and writing skills. I am an avid reader and I love helping students build upon their reading skills so that they can make meaningful connections to written materials, develop a love for literature, and most importantly, develop the skills to be successful in school and in the work place. Every day, I work with students to build upon skills that help support independence in the writing process, from brainstorming and creating an outline, to editing and polishing a final draft. My approach to teaching and learning is to make instruction clear, effective, and to have a bit of fun in the process. When I analyze your essay, I take both a holistic and a line by line approach.Currently, I am teaching a reading program that incorporates all these different approaches to writing.Needless to say, my favorite subjects to tutor are writing and literature.I am a hands-on teacher. When I was not studying, my time was consumed by many activities including my job as a medical scribe in the emergency department of Seton Hays Hospital and my membership with my sorority, Alpha Delta Pi. I volunteered on weekends through the Ronald McDonald House Charities and San Marcos's local Senior Citizens Home.After college, I decided to continue my education and pursue a medical degree. I am currently enrolled in the Medical Sciences program at the University of North Texas Health Science Center's Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences. While I await decisions from medical schools, my time consists of working out, running outside, eating mac & cheese, and now tutoring those who were once in my shoes.I want to provide those in need with the skills to become the best versions of themselves through the arms of education. Since graduation, I have been applying to medical schools with the intention of becoming a student starting Fall of 2015. I can tutor math and science subjects of all levels for students from 4th-12th grade as well as the SAT. Biology and History are my favorite and strongest subjects as I enjoy the memorizing and understanding of large amounts of information. I've been a data fanatic from an early age my high school Math League won state competitions (so you can say I'm a Mathlete!). I have also been known to associate street patterns to functions and derive equations to pass time. More importantly, I've worked as a math tutor while in high school and while working towards my BA in Mathematics at the College of Saint Elizabeth. I earned my Master in Public Administration (MPA) from New York University and have worked for the past 10 years in non-profits and city government. In addition, I taught statistics as an adjunct mathematics professor at the college level.I find so much joy in helping students find their love for math. When I served as a professor, nearly all of my undergraduate students were taking the course to complete their minimum mathematics requirement. Most of them had a self-prescribed phobia of math. By the end of the course, they were able to calculate standard deviations, perform regressions and understand the meaning of correlation.In addition, as a policy analyst and project manager, I understand the value of removing the stigma behind data and its usefulness for those who don't have the same love for numbers as I do. I've been able to perform complex data analysis and interpret the findings for colleagues and senior leadership to inform their policy decisions and improve program operations.In my free time, I enjoy travel, running, yoga, and rock climbing.

I am a first-year student pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science at Harvey Mudd College. Throughout all four years of high school, I tutored my peers in subjects such as chemistry, algebra, geometry, calculus, and statistics. Passionate about sharing my learning with younger students in the community, I was also a primary instructor for the Kumon Math and Reading Center, where I spent three years teaching math and reading to students who ranged from pre-K to 12th grade. Additionally, as an assistant instructor for the Arizona Science Center's Camp Innovation, I empowered youth by delivering science programming to children between the ages of four and seven. Through such experiences, I've realized the impact that I can have as a tutor.In addition to helping students understand their classwork and improve their grades, I have the opportunity to build positive relationships, bring motivation to those in need of it, and most importantly, help others succeed after recognizing their potential.
