Hi, I'm Jackson! I tutor Math, Reading, History, and Science and specialize in turning confusion into confidence. Whether you're catching up or aiming for the top, I'll build a strategy that works for you. Let's get to work book a session today!

I know math can feel overwhelming or even scary. My job is to change that. With a proven track record of 15 years of teaching in reputed schools, 2 years of online teaching and 3 years of private tutoring , I have seen it all. In my lessons, you'll see use lot of visuals and real life examples. When something doesn't click, we slow down, try a different angle, and figure out what works for you. I believe that life has different approaches to a solution, just like Math.
I am available to help students with any topics they are struggling with in their high school or early college-level Physics courses.
I am a recent cum laude graduate of the University of Amsterdam's Masters in Economics Program where I specialized in Monetary Policy and Banking. While there, I worked as a teaching assistant and tutored in economics and mathematics. Prior to that, I worked as an ESL teacher for two years in Russia and China.
I'm a graduate of the School of Engineering at Virginia Commonwealth University (2015). I have a Bachelor's of Science degree in Biomedical Engineering, and am pursuing a Masters Degree in Business Administration from the VCU School of Business. I've been a mentor for the past four years and am very active in my method of tutoring. I have helped several students with official tests and homework assignments.
I am a graduate of Brigham Young University, where I received my Bachelor of Arts in International Relations with an emphasis in Middle Eastern Studies and Arabic. As part of my coursework, I studied Arabic for three years and spent a semester in Amman, Jordan. After graduating, I worked on a U.S. Senate campaign, then interned at a think tank and congressional office in Washington, DC. While at the think tank, I co-authored an article that was published in US News and World Report. I am currently pursuing my juris doctorate (JD) at the University of Georgia School of Law.
I am very excited to have the chance to work with students preparing for the PSAT, the SAT, or the LSAT! While I'm originally from Connecticut, I attended college and law school in Buffalo, New York. While there, I worked for a test prep agency helping students prepare for the SAT and the LSAT. In 2003, I moved to Richmond. I worked with the Virginia Department of Taxation for 7 years doing policy work and assisting with the legislative process. In 2011, I began working for Bryant and Stratton College, where I taught students in the Paralegal Studies program. I loved helping my students prepare for new careers. I can't wait to work with you and help you succeed as well!
I am currently a second year law student at Harvard Law School. I am passionate about public interest law, particularly immigration and criminal defense.
I am a graduate of Yale University, where I majored in Global Affairs. After graduation, I spent one year at a liberal arts college in Singapore, where I worked in the writing center and mentored students extensively in academic writing. Since then, I have been traveling, while continuing to tutor writing skills online. I emphasize learning how to write a clear, organized, and persuasive argument supported by solid evidence. In addition, I have experience tutoring students one-on-one with academic subjects and test prep. I enjoy helping my students discover the patterns behind the problems in standardized tests, especially in the SAT and LSAT. I believe in a personalized approach, and I love seeing students gain mastery and understanding of these skills. Next Fall I will be attending law school.
I am often asked by friends to help them with their math homework. I have spent countless hours teaching calculus to engineering, computer science, physics, and economics majors. Being one of seven children, I have been helping my sibling with math for as long as I can remember. I believe that a solid understanding of mathematics is crucial to success, and the demand for people with quantitative skills is only growing.
I am currently working on my Doctor of Pharmacy Degree from Virginia Commonwealth University, where I attained my undergraduate degree in Biochemistry. VCU is where I have held bioinorganic research positions as well as teaching positions. I acted as a teaching assistant in various chemistry and biology classes while studying and am currently an adjunct faculty teaching chemistry courses for the university. In addition to Varsity Tutors, I tutor for PCG education where I prepare students at J L Francis Elemetnary School for their mathematics SOLs. Throughout my different experiences with teaching and tutoring, I have found that each individual requires a different teaching style. Adjusting styles to accommodate different learning styles can be difficult at start, but overtime it helps the success of students to achieve their goals.
I am most interested in improving the critical thinking and critical writing skills of students who will comprise the next generation of college graduates and working professionals. The ability to express oneself clearly through writing is an invaluable skill both within academia and the professional workforce. I believe it is my job to provide students with the necessary preparation and skills they will need to succeed in a college environment and beyond. When I am not tutoring, I enjoy reading fiction (with a special soft spot for sci-fi/fantasy), running and training for my next marathon, and experimenting with new recipes in my kitchen.

Frequently Asked Questions
Yes, Varsity Tutors connects students across Herndon's 23 schools with personalized tutoring support. Whether your student attends a Fairfax County elementary, middle, or high school in the area, we can match them with a tutor who understands local curriculum standards and can help them succeed in their specific school environment.
With over 12,000 students in Herndon schools, we see a wide range of learning needs—from students seeking support in core subjects like math and English to those preparing for standardized tests like the SAT and ACT. Many students also benefit from tutoring to meet Virginia's Standards of Learning (SOL) requirements, particularly in subjects where class sizes can make individualized attention difficult.
While Herndon's average student-teacher ratio is 14.6:1, personalized 1-on-1 instruction fills an important gap that classroom teaching can't always address. Tutors work at your student's pace, focus on their specific learning gaps, and adapt their teaching style to how your child learns best—something that's difficult for teachers managing full classrooms.
During the initial session, a tutor will assess your student's current level, understand their specific goals, and identify areas where they need the most support. This might involve reviewing recent schoolwork, discussing challenges in particular subjects, or understanding test preparation needs. The tutor then creates a customized plan tailored to your student's learning style and Herndon school curriculum.
Absolutely. Varsity Tutors connects students with tutors who understand Virginia's Standards of Learning and can provide targeted preparation for SOL assessments in math, science, English, and social studies. Tutors can help students build mastery of specific content areas and test-taking strategies to boost confidence and performance on these important state assessments.
Tutors support students across all major subjects—math, science, English, history, and foreign languages—as well as specialized areas like test prep (SAT, ACT, AP exams), writing, and study skills. Whether your student needs help with elementary fundamentals, middle school transitions, or high school coursework, we can connect you with someone qualified in that specific area.
Tutoring rates vary based on the subject, tutor qualifications, and frequency of sessions. We work with families to find options that fit different budgets and schedules. Contact us to discuss your student's specific needs, and we can provide transparent pricing and help you understand what to expect before you get started.
Getting started is simple—tell us about your student's grade level, subject needs, and goals, and we'll match them with an experienced tutor who's a good fit. You can typically begin sessions within days, and you'll have flexibility to adjust frequency and focus as your student's needs evolve throughout the school year.
