I am a graduate of Virginia Tech with degrees in Economics and Psychology. I have a passion for learning - whether it entails academics or understanding more about the people around me - and I believe that this passion drives me to help others learn as well. While I realize that not everyone will share my natural enthusiasm for economics, psychology, or history, I am confident that I can utilize my knowledge and love of these subjects to bring them to you in a manner that is accessible, engaging, and stress-free.
I am a veteran teacher who has been in the field for over 20 years. I truly believe in what I do and I love teaching very much. I have a variety of tools and experiences that allow me to help students become better readers through individualizing and personalizing to meet the students needs.
I graduated from Virginia Tech in 2014 with a B.Sc. in Wildlife Science and a minor in theater. Through my major's professional society, I taught in Virginia schools at a variety of age levels, from elementary to high school. All lesson plans I created (in subjects like geology, oceanography, evolution, etc.) adhered to "Standards Of Learning" set by the state of Virginia. Since graduating I have been an interpretive naturalist at Croydon Creek Nature Center in Rockville, MD, a teaching fellow at the New York Aquarium in Brooklyn, NY, and now I work within the Education Department at the American Museum of Natural History in Manhattan, NY. Given my background in the natural sciences, my favorite subjects to teach include environmental science, ecology, and biology. What I love about teaching is making seemingly difficult concepts easy to comprehend by applying them to real world scenarios. I firmly believe that all students can thrive when lessons are tailored to their learning styles. When my students succeed, I succeed. In my spare time I enjoy hiking, wildlife watching, and a good sci-fi movie.
I am proficient in calculus and algebra, and am well versed in many other areas of mathematics. This is a direct result of good teaching, hard work and dedication. I hope to pass on some of the insights that I have gained through my education and work experience. I am patient, friendly and approachable. I can break down complex problems and explain them in layman's terms. I have been tutoring part time for 6 years now and enjoy it very much.Currently I am working towards a masters degree in electrical and computer engineering. In my spare time, I like to build guitar amplifiers and play guitar for fun."Math is cool I use it every day. When I work and even when I play. I've got problems to be solved, in my home and at school. I like it when there's math involved 'cause math is cool!"
I graduated from Virginia Tech with a Bachelors in Science and went on to get my DPT at the University of Southern California.I have experience tutoring students in both a formal setting as well as a clinical setting, via being a clinical instructor for physical therapist students.I passed the NPTE on my first try and know from first hand experience what a stressful and nerve wracking time it can be. My tutors/mentors really helped me feel more prepared, knowledgeable, and empowered to take the test confidently, and that is why I am motivated to do the same for my students!
I am passionate about helping students learn math and believe that anyone willing to put in the time and effort can be successful at it. I recently received my BS in Statistics from Virginia Tech, where I spent a lot of time tutoring students in various math and statistics classes. I got my MS in Statistics from the University of Illinois where I worked as a TA for different stats classes. Currently I tutor, do freelance data analysis and work at a math learning center.
I am a graduate of Virginia Tech and did my residency, internship and fellowship at Vanderbilt University School of Medicine. There I received my doctorate in Clinical Psychology/Neuropsychology. Since leaving Vanderbilt, where I was a co-investigator for several medications to treat Alzheimer's and other dementia etiologies, I have worked as a private practicing Neuropsychologist and have been a college professor in Psychology at the graduate and undergraduate level. I have found in my tutoring, mentoring and teaching that professional practice and academic work provide a real-world application context to the information my students are learning. Learning facts that presented with contemporary applications "sticks" far better than simple memorization; even the most basic and seemingly mundane information is applicable in real-life. In my spare time, I enjoy reading, working on and riding motorcycles, and enjoy online gaming.
I am a Virginia native who has recently relocated to Cincinnati after a year spent abroad in Edinburgh, Scotland. I received my BA in English Literature from Virginia Tech. (GO HOKIES!) I have completed my Master's Degree at the University of Edinburgh. I wrote my dissertation on early modern South Asian and Islamic art. I love to read, write, sketch, and check out museums in my spare time.
"Believe you can and you're halfway there." -Theodore Roosevelt.Belief in one's self is needed to perform well in any area of life along with practice, patience, and perseverance. These virtues allow individuals to rise to any challenge and to perform at their highest potential. I enjoy inspiring students to be their best and to show them learning can be fun. Watching students gain confidence and become independent learners is my greatest reward as a teacher.
Hola! Bonjour! Hi, everyone! I really enjoying tutoring, and can't wait to meet my next students. It's always an adventure for me (and I hope for you, too)!Allow me to introduce myself. I am the mother of two homeschooled boys who are now grown men. I guess I didn't do too badly, because one went on to graduate from William & Mary and the other is a first responder, a helicopter pilot, and now a dad! Of course I am thrilled to get a chance to help teach the next generation...About me: I am an Army brat, so I had the opportunity to live in different countries (Africa and Europe) and learn different languages along the way. I have a degree in Animal Science, which means I learned a lot of science in college (and I can milk a cow)! I worked in research for a few years as an electron microscopist, and even did some work for Dr. Anthony Fauci! My particular strength is writing. I have published in research journals, written movie screenplays, and now am writing my first book. My regular students get plenty of chances to write, sing (my mom was a music teacher)--we've even been know to dance the Macarena on occasion. When I tutor younger folk, I try to find their interests and build our curriculum around things that they enjoy. Of course with older students we often have to hunker down and work on actual school projects, but I still like to keep it interesting. Best of luck to everyone, and let me know if I can be of help!
Hello! My name is Michael Hoare and I work as a data engineer in the public sector. I am a self-taught programmer as I obtained my undergraduate degree in finance from Indiana University of Pennsylvania and earned my Master's degree at Virginia Tech in Business Intelligence.I specialize in teaching introductory python, SQL, and databases. These skills are extremely useful for anyone who deals with data, including business analysts and entry level-developers.In my personal experience, the best way to learn these skills is to apply them. Hence, my teaching is very interactive where we are constantly typing code and seeing the output.Hope to see you soon!
