About Me

I have been working with children from preschool through high school for 25 years and still love to see the light bulb go off when a student understands a difficult concept. Following my graduation from Virginia Tech where I obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in Management, Housing, and Family Development (now called Consumer Science), I worked in administration until I had children. Then just a few years after, I became a full-time mom, I began my home-schooling adventure where I have taught, ELA, Math, Science, and Social Studies. Toward the end of my home-schooling career (or the last 7 or so years), I joined a homeschool co-op and volunteered teaching wherever needed. Those classes have included elementary and middle school math; elementary, middle, and high school science; and high school finance. Since my youngest graduated from high school, I have discovered how fun it is to teach online. Since early 2020, I have been teaching ESL and homeschool enrichment classes through various platforms including ZebraEnglish, Cambly Kids, and Outschool. I have to say my favorite subjects to teach/tutor are early English skills (ELA and ESL) and math skills up to and including Algebra. Someday I'd like to explore the possibility of tutoring test prep classes from middle elementary through high school. As a retired home educator, that is where I feel a comprehensive review is greatly needed. I love to see students succeed. When I am not teaching, I enjoy my growing family (four grandchildren), reading, crocheting, and learning how better use the Google Workplace in my classroom.
