About Me

I believe education is the opportunity to steer your life in the direction you want. I love helping students find their strengths and shore up their weaknesses so they can accomplish their academic dreams. I received a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science from the University of Nebraska - Lincoln. I also have a Teaching English as a Foreign Language certificate from Norwood English. I have taught and tutored in multiple different capacities in my life. I taught reading development skills to students of all ages (from age 4 to age 64 and every age in between). I have also taught English as a Second Language to primary schools students in Beijing, China. Lastly, I have privately tutored a Chinese professor and her daughter on English as a Second Language for 6 months. She also tutored me on Mandarin Chinese. The subjects I tutor include ACT prep (in all subject areas), high school math, reading, writing, and English, computer science, study skills and organization, essay writing and editing, and college Algebra. My favorite subjects to tutor are reading and writing (because English is such a valuable tool to every student for their whole educational careers) as well as ACT prep (because testing is so important for college) and math (because I like breaking down complex problems into easy steps).My teaching philosophy is that everybody can become a better learner and that schoolwork is just like anything else: with practice and guidance, you WILL get better. In my free time, I like to sing and play guitar, play board games with friends, rock climb, hang out with my girlfriend and her dog, and get involved with my church. I also love hanging out with international students and helping them have better experiences in the US.
