I am passionate about helping students because I've been a student my whole life! Even though I'm a professor now, I love to learn. And now that I have experience, I love to help others along the learning journey. I have degrees in English and education from Rice University, UT Austin, Texas State, and Texas A&M. I also studied abroad in England at the University of East Anglia and have traveled to many countries. I tutor English and Spanish (my family is from Mexico City). My favorite thing to tutor is writing, and I have taught writing from the Kindergarten-graduate school (Ph.D.) level (what I currently do). I am here to share tools and tips to help you succeed in your learning journey.

I am a patient teacher who can explain problems in many different ways according to how individual students learn best. I only ask that you know and explain to me what topics you do not know or get so far. I know that every student can learn a subject with a combination of practice and patience, but I insist upon consistent effort and sessions. As an educator I do not support last minute cramming as the primary learning method of content for students as it does not lead to retention of material, mastery of larger themes, or the ability to differentiate between subtle differences when problem-solving on tests and exams. I will help my clients when they need extra sessions before Final Exams and AP Exams, but those who have been working the hardest throughout the school year to regularly improve will get preference over those students who are panicked at the last minute, but have put off meeting with me. Hobbies: books, writing, reading, music, films, art

I am currently teaching math at Chaparral high school. The subjects I taught for the past three years include Algebra I, Algebra II, Pre-Calculus and College preparatory math. Overall I have been working in academic areas for the last 10 years studying, teaching and tutoring. I know how to help students in their specific subject related problems as well as improving study skills. I have studied chemical engineering both in my undergraduate and graduate programs, and because math is the foundation of engineering and used in problem solving, I am also confident in my abilities to help in that subject. I am open minded and easy to talk.

I am a recent graduate from Tufts University with a major in International Relations and a minor in Economics. I have been helping students since I was in middle school working with students of all ages from kindergarten to college. Prior to spending four years at Tufts, I attended a boarding school in Massachusetts where I was committed to tutoring middle school students at a local Boys and Girls' Club for all four years. I always enjoyed seeing the energy of younger students who were eager to learn and their visible improvements. I also worked as a teaching assistant for an SAT prep center where I tutored SAT verbal and writing along with SAT II literature and math. I moved to Las Vegas a few months ago after finishing up college, and I would love to get back to working with students on a regular basis because I understand the importance of education and enjoy helping and seeing results. My favorite subject to teach is SAT because with the right help it is a standardized test that can see huge improvements in scores. Writing section is especially my forte because I think that grammar is the basic building block of the English language that deserves a little more attention in school. I feel a great sense of fulfillment when students start to understand the different structures of English sentences and appreciate such knowledge. In my spare time, I like to stay active and go to yoga classes, including antigravity yoga, and drive to national parks for fresh air. I am also a big foodie who enjoys regular trips to different restaurants with friends and an avid movie fan. I look forward to meeting with students here in Las Vegas!

I am currently a student of the University of Nevada Las Vegas (UNLV). I am working toward a Bachelor of Sciences in Biological Sciences degree with a concentration in Cell and Molecular Biology. Since my high school years, I have worked tirelessly through the community, tutoring my peers in my school's magnet program and children with learning disabilities for a nonprofit organization dealing with autism research. Though I tutor a variety of subjects, I am most interested in Biology, Chemistry, and Mathematics. In all my years as a tutor, I have always tried to stress the importance of education in changing one's life to my students, being a firm believer in the power of knowledge and education's role in bringing out the best of people. In my leisure time, I enjoy running, tennis, pleasure reading to enrich my mind, and playing the ever soothing melodies of the piano.

I am currently studying for my Bachelors of Science in Electrical Engineering at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas. I tutor my peers at the university level, but enjoy working with younger students as well. While I tutor a variety of subjects, I love tutoring Math and English! I find that students develop an appreciation for Math and English when they thoroughly understand these subjects, and it is my goal to develop this understanding in each of my students.

Frequently Asked Questions

Yes, Varsity Tutors connects students from across North Las Vegas's 12 schools with personalized tutoring support. Whether your student attends an elementary, middle, or high school in the area, we match them with tutors who understand Nevada's curriculum standards and can provide targeted instruction aligned with what they're learning in the classroom.

With an average student-teacher ratio of 44.7:1 in North Las Vegas schools, individual students often don't get the one-on-one attention they need to master challenging concepts. Personalized 1-on-1 tutoring fills that gap by providing focused instruction tailored to your student's learning pace, learning style, and specific areas of struggle—something that's difficult to achieve in larger classroom settings.

Your first session is an opportunity for the tutor to understand your student's current level, learning goals, and any specific challenges they're facing. The tutor will assess what's working and what isn't, then create a personalized plan to address gaps and build confidence. This foundation helps ensure every future session is focused and productive.

North Las Vegas students frequently seek help with math (especially algebra and geometry), reading comprehension, writing, and standardized test preparation for Nevada assessments. Science and English language support are also common, particularly for students working toward proficiency in Nevada's academic standards. Varsity Tutors connects students with tutors across all these subjects and more.

Tutors working with North Las Vegas students are familiar with Nevada's learning standards and assessment requirements. They align instruction with what students need to succeed on state assessments and in their courses, ensuring tutoring directly supports classroom progress and long-term academic goals.

Tutoring costs vary based on the subject, tutor expertise, and frequency of sessions. We work with families to create flexible plans that fit different budgets, whether you need weekly sessions or more intensive support. Contact Varsity Tutors to discuss pricing options and find a plan that works for your family.

Varsity Tutors connects you with tutors who have strong subject expertise and proven teaching ability. Many hold degrees in their subject areas, have classroom teaching experience, or bring specialized knowledge in test prep, language learning, or other subjects. Each tutor is vetted to ensure they can provide high-quality, personalized instruction.

Getting started is simple—reach out to Varsity Tutors with information about your student's grade level, subject needs, and goals. We'll match them with a qualified tutor and schedule a first session. From there, you and the tutor can work together to create a plan that helps your student succeed.
