I have 5 years of experience teaching Physics and Statistics at the secondary level after graduating from Merrimack College in North Andover, MA in 2007. My teaching style is student-centered meaning I want to focus on the interests of the student and how that might apply to the concepts we would review. I encourage students to bring all necessary items to their session for maximum effective use of their time. By being prepared in this particular way we can build on the students classroom organizational skills in addition to helping in any area of the curriculum that they may need help on.Mathematics is the universal language. Learning this at a young age had a profound impact on me. It inspired my interest in travel and my passion for learning. Science was the natural progression as it is simply mathematical concepts applied to real world concepts. Some of my hobbies include hiking, skiing and playing soccer.

I have been teaching English and writing courses for many years. I have a Master's degree in English and a Bachelor's degree in English Education. I earned my first degree at the University of Mary in Bismarck, ND. After graduating with my undergraduate degree I taught high school for two years in Fargo, ND and then decided I wanted to do something different. I applied to grad schools and was accepted to Seton Hall University in South Orange, NJ. I moved to New Jersey where I went to school and taught for them while they paid my tuition for grad school along with a small stipend. I lived in Jersey for a year and a half and then moved to Brooklyn, NY. I lived there for another year and a half. I missed MN and decided to move back in 2005. I have taught students from 12 to 60 years of age, different cultures, skills and backgrounds; in all areas of English, reading and especially writing. I am passionate and get to know my students. That is partially why I am successful in helping them to achieve their goals and go beyond expectations! Tutoring and teaching is a noble profession and I take pride in being an educator. I will not let a student leave feeling confused or frustrated. My students are successful and gain incredible knowledge of the subject and of themselves.I enjoy the outdoors and all MN sports . I am not the best fisher-person but love it, as well as camping (as long as the mosquitoes are friendly).

I am a graduate of the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill. Go, Tarheels! I was a student there during the Michael Jordan era and the good old days of Dean Smith. I received my Bachelor of Arts in Secondary Education and stepped into teaching high school English immediately after graduating. I have always been an avid reader and writer, so my passion is teaching students to love books, reading, and writing. During my career I have taught grades 7 through 12 and a few community college university transfer courses. After receiving my Master's Degree in English from North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University, I was afforded an opportunity to study abroad at the University of the West Indies. Basically, a few other teachers and I were able to study the culture and literature of Jamaica for an entire summer. I believe that all students can learn, however, students do not all learn at the same pace. I am passionate about helping struggling learners to see their potential. My former students and I always kept "hands-on" activities going with each unit that I taught. I often offered them "choice" in assignments because I do not believe in "one size fits all" educational practices. For example, my 8th graders began to really love poetry each year because I often had a resident poet to do an internship with them during this unit. Since he was a published author of poetry, he was able to do a poetry seminar with my students, and I even became a student under his tutelage. The end result was a spectacular Poetry Cafe at the end of his seminar. And, my students and I regularly published a poetry anthology at the end of the school year. Each student was asked to contribute their best rendering and I was able to get a sponsor who graciously printed bound copies for each of my students. I believe I can successfully tutor students who have difficulties in reading comprehension, English grammar, and writing. At times, since I have retired, I frequently tutor students who are below grade level in reading. My teaching style is pretty much one of "I do", "we do", and "you do". This allows me to model a particular lesson and then gradually release the pupils to complete tasks on their own. I love to see students master new material and become confident in themselves. Tutoring will give me an outlet to continue to stay in tune with our future leaders of America. During the course of my career I have taught several students who have played in the NBA, competed in the Olympics, a famous folk singer, and many published writers, and speakers. Most of them are my Facebook friends. I, too, am in the process of publishing a second book. In addition to reading, writing and singing, I love to garden, travel, exercise, and cook. And yes, I believe that learning is a life-long process for us all. It is my desire to create a community of learners who will continue to pass this joy of learning on to future generations.

I have been teaching for thirteen years, twelve of which have been in Forsyth County. I have taught grades 2, 4, 5 and kindergarten. I have a gifted endorsement and really enjoy challenging my students to find different ways to solve problems and think outside the box as much as they can. I am an avid reader and I believe that the greatest skill any of us learns is reading. I also have an ESOL endorsement and reading endorsement, both of which have given me additional resources and skills to help students learn to read and to love reading.I am a dedicated teacher who believes the key to teaching students is to instruct them in a way that best matches their learning style. I try to incorporate games, drama and hands on learning into my lessons.

As an Environmental Educator for New York State Parks, I act as a jack-of-all-trades for the thousands of visitors who come to our natural areas every summer. One day I could be giving a program on the geological formation of the Finger Lakes; another day, I could be hiking park trails to make sure everyone is safe and accounted for. Regardless of what I'm doing on any given day, one of the key components of my job is the ability to understand, paraphrase, and communicate complicated concepts to the public.Combined with my personal experience in coaching youth volleyball and serving as an interpreter for the US Forest Service last year, I have found I'm able to explain ideas well to people regardless of their background knowledge on any given topic. I'm looking forward to working with you!

I am a graduate of Michigan State University, where I studied Mathematics and Interdisciplinary Humanities. I am currently enrolled at the Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy, where I study Development Economics and International Monetary Policy. I have worked as a Teaching Assistant, Research Assistant, and as an Actuary, and have a particular passion for teaching Mathematics. When tutoring I try to include visualizations and real world examples whenever I can so that it does not feel like a fruitless exercise. I help students reach their goals with a two-pronged approach: reinforcing and building upon strengths while targeting weaknesses. In my free time I exercise, play the piano and volunteer with the Jewish Vocational Service.

I was a teacher for 13.5 years, teaching grades 5-12. I have loved it, but I needed a change of scenery, so I left to pursue another career. However, I feel that I am not finished teaching completely and I hope to have a positive impact on students by tutoring them when they are struggling. I know learning another language is challenging, but it can also be so much fun and can open up so many doors for a student! In my spare time, I love to travel (either long or short trips), read , work out, cook, and spend time with family and friend. I also love getting together with my Spanish-speaking friends to catch up and I get to use my Spanish language skills!

Hello, my name is Hannah Simons, and I decided to become a personal tutor after I got a job at my school's writing center, and found out I absolutely loved the feeling of being able to clear up someone's frustrations. I am actually a marine science major, but among all my lab reports and data collection, I needed a humanities outlet. My natural reading and writing ability have always been able to give me a different perspective on the sciences. However, because of my strength in language, I've always struggled in math. To be a marine science major I had to overcome a lot of academic challenges, due to the major's concentration in math. I hope that my passion for what I study can inspire other people to find their niche, and make them want to excel in areas that they've always struggled.
