I am a grad of Washington University where I earned a double major in Spanish and International Studies. I am currently a fellow in the Coro program, a graduate-level experiential learning program focused on civic leadership and cross-sector problem solving. My academic background is similarly interdisciplinary, and I tutor in subjects from Spanish to Geometry to SAT Prep. I have a special knack for cracking standardized tests, and I find it very rewarding to help demystify them by teaching students to recognize common strategies used to confuse test-takers. In my 8 years of tutoring, I have found the "supported challenge" model of engagement is effective for students from elementary through high school. I love to learn, and I draw on that enthusiasm to get all of my students invested in their own growth. In my spare time, I enjoy hiking, dancing, and reading.

Since graduation, I have traveled around the United States and Europe, and worked on political campaigns and immigration research. My tutoring experience has included working with underprivileged children as part of an after school program, and acting as a teacher's assistant and after school tutor at a private college preparatory school. While I tutor in many different areas, I would say that my passion lies in helping students learn how to read, as well as creative and persuasive writing. It is in these areas that I have had the most success--as well as the most fun-- teaching both academic students as well as those preparing for entrance exams such as the ACT and SAT. In high school I did 13 AP classes and passed all of the tests most with a 4 or higher. In college I attended the University of Miami in Management, Marketing and a minor in music business. I have run companies, managed artists, manage sales teams, developed sponsorship proposals, developed business plans, and utilized programs and social networking sites to create marketing campaigns for all of these. During my time in managing a sales office for 3 years I learned many universal principles to organization, motivation, and teaching. I have also won and competed in Business Plan competitions, elevator pitch competitions, and the International Poetry competition which was the focus of a 2008 documentary on HBO called Brave New Voices. Now, for hobbies I write lyrics and read a lot of books on motivation, leadership, sales, and mindset. I am constantly growing myself in my career and intelligence and I know I can inspire others to do the same in any endeavor.

I am a Latin American Studies Master's degree candidate at the University of New Mexico. My courses are concentrated in Economic Development and Gender here at UNM, with one of my main focuses being women's empowerment. I completed a Bachelor's in Business Administration and Spanish Literature at Roanoke College in May 2014. I have spent the large majority of my life as a student and I love learning. I graduated with a 3.95 from Roanoke and have maintained a 4.0 at UNM since the first semester. That being said, I believe my GPA is just a number and there is a lot more to learning than the grade received at the end of the semester.I am whole-heartedly committed to educating myself and others through empowerment, confidence-building, and patience. Everyone learns in different ways but that shouldn't keep knowledge out of reach. I am a Junior undergraduate student at Texas A&M University. I am currently in pursuit of a Computer Science Degree with a Mathematics Minor. Throughout high school and college, I have seen some peers struggle in concepts of Math due to a lack of foundational knowledge. Especially since I have been in the shoes of a high school student enrolled in higher-level math courses, I strongly believe that I have the knowledge and experience to help students grasp the important fundamentals that are required to gain a deeper understanding of Math. Currently, I am pursuing my Master’s degree in Comparative Literature at The CUNY Graduate Center with a language focus on Spanish texts and an interest in the American Romantic Movement. I have always had a strong interest in English grammar and composition, and I have tutored that subject area extensively both during my undergraduate studies and at present. My strength is SAT test prep, both Verbal and Writing, as well as Critical Reading and Composition practice. Strong language skills are critical for a student’s success and advancement every step of the way, from elementary school to future growth in the workplace. During tutoring sessions, my goal is to help my students gain not only the skill sets necessary to read critically and write competently, but also to gain a love of reading that will last a lifetime.
