I received my MS in math from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville and my BS in math from Augusta University. I was pursuing a PhD in math at UTK so I have 5 years of teaching experience on top of 4 years of tutoring experience in undergrad. I love helping students one-on-one and that's why I tutored middle and high schoolers privately while also working at the math lab at AU tutoring adults. I tutor any math class from middle school to undergraduate, and I also excel with test prep (SAT, GRE, etc.). My approach to tutoring is helping students understand not only how you complete a problem but why we complete the problem that way; I also try to instill academic confidence in my students.

My life's work has been and continues to be assisting students in building confidence while exploring the wonders of language and mathematics. Whether it be Algebra, ACT preparation, or English for non-native speakers, I have enjoyed my 20+ years working with students both in the U.S. and abroad (China & India). I have tutored students as young as Pre-K, but most of my experience lies with high school, university & adult students. For those seeking assistance with the ACT, I have several years of experience tutoring all subjects - content & strategies. With the changes in the ACT last year (science optional, shorter subject tests with differing times), I decided to take the new Enhanced ACT with hundreds of high school students to gain first-hand experience with how the alterations might affect test strategy and gauge any changes in content. My split focus affected the science score most (:D), but I look forward to sharing my newly gained insights with my students.

Hello! I recently graduated with a BA in Liberal Arts from Sarah Lawrence College. I have a passion for reading, writing, and film and I am currently taking an online graduate course in TV writing with UCLA. The subjects I tutor in include essay editing, writing, and reading comprehension (i.e. anything pertaining to writing and english.) My tutoring style is collaboration based and tailored to each student's individual learning style. I have first hand experience with how frustrating it can be to get lost in a classroom and feel like you're falling behind, because you don't learn or retain information the same way as your peers, so I find it's the most beneficial to understand each student's relationship with the subject material and developing a plan from there, opposed to instilling a generalized "one size fits all" agenda.

Upon graduation from New York University (Philosophy), I taught the verbal section of the MCAT to prospective medical students in my home state of Virginia, after which I moved to New Orleans to teach Middle School Math and Science in low-income communities as an AmeriCorps member. I now tutor a broad range of subjects, specializing in standardized admissions tests through graduate levels. I am a firm proponent of education and its role in a fulfilling life. I received my B.S. in Biology from Rhodes College, my M.S. in Biology from Alabama in Birmingham, and a PhD in Anatomy and Physiology from Duke University. My teaching over the last few years has focused on Histology (MicroAnatomy) and Physiology. Teaching modern histology and physiology requires a strong understanding of cell and molecular biology, and I incorporate these areas into my current teaching. I have also taught Genetics, Cell Biology, Developmental Biology, and Introductory Biology. During my 25 years at the University of Puget Sound, I continually served on our Health Professions Advising Committee, and was chair of this committee for three years. We advised students in all aspects of their applications for professional schools in diverse areas of health care professions, such as medical and dental school, among other professional health-related graduate programs. As chair of the committee I was solely responsible for writing committee letters for all of our students who applied through our committee. As a science educator, I serve my students, and do my utmost to provide them with a modern education in biology. I sincerely love teaching, which for me includes preparation through literature research, and organization and delivery of the best information. I enjoy all aspects of teaching, but most especially the reward of seeing my students learn, and secondarily, my learning of my field and pedagogy, through my efforts as a teacher.
