I am currently a student at the University of Michigan Ross School of Business. I am working on my third year in the Bachelors of Business Administration program. Throughout my time in both college and high school I have experienced the frustration and pains of students, whether it be myself or my friends. I have always helped my friends with the subjects they struggled with (Calculus, ACT science, Economics, etc.) because I want to see them succeed. I decided to become a tutor to help others succeed as well. I teach ACT, SAT, Statistics, Economics, Business, Math, English, Environment Science, Reading, Writing, and Essay Editing. I especially enjoy teaching Essay Editing, Reading, and Writing because there is more flexibility and opportunity to add your own style into these subjects. Outside of school I enjoy playing tennis, working out, DJing and cooking.

I received my Bachelor of Arts from Case Western Reserve University in Humanities with a focus on literature and drama, my Masters from Bank Street College of Education in Early Childhood and Elementary Education, and my Doctorate from Columbia University, Teachers College in Curriculum and Instruction. I am teacher certified in Nursery-Grade 6 and have completed the Orton Gillingham training in reading instruction. Additionally, I studied writing at The Vermont College Program for Writing for Children and Young Adults. An educator for over 35 years, I have been a classroom teacher; university professor; curriculum consultant; learning specialist; and tutor, working with preschoolers through adults. "Differentiating' instruction based on "alternative" assessments, I work with students with dyslexia, ADD/ADHD and Aspergers' Syndrome as well as with "gifted" students. I am adept at recognizing both "I don't have a clue." and "getting it." I bring passion to discovering which of the varied approaches, activities, and materials help my students move from "no clue.." to "got it." Areas of expertise, with emphasis on the interactive nature of concept development and skill acquisition, include early reading and math; all levels and content areas of language arts; executive functioning skills (time management and organizational skills), and aligning instruction with state and national learning standards. I have traveled extensively and have lived in Scotland and Belgium. Other interests include writing (for children), swimming, biking, cooking, reading, and music.

I am currently a fifth year MD/PhD student at Weill Cornell and I doing my PhD in genetics and neuroscience at Rockefeller university. I majored in biology at Columbia university. I am extremely passionate about teaching and maximizing students time, resources and success.

I am a graduate of Linfield College. I received my Bachelor of Arts in English Literature with a focus on nature literature and rhetoric. I also received a minor in Psychology. In my spare time I read, focusing on personal development, and spend as much time as possible with my strong wife. I also hike, exercise, write and spend time with my family. Some of my favorite moments during my education were working one on one with students to not only help improve their writing, but to improve their thinking and the way they analyze the world. Teaching is a huge passion for me. I found this to be my calling as I retired from collegiate football with an injury and began to coach and help create Linfield College's football training program. Through this experience, my love for helping people learn and to eventually become teachers in their own right blossomed. While I specifically tutor writing (from MLA to APA formatting and styles) my tutoring style focuses on creating independent and critical thinkers. My hope and goal is for you to leave one of my tutoring sessions not feeling like you have been told everything you have done wrong, but to have been challenged to take ownership of your learning, writing and ultimately your thinking. I don't want perfect students. Rather, I want to tutor students with passions and curiosities, who aren't afraid to work on their weaknesses and have a hunger for learning and thinking outside the box. My firm belief remains that as you become a better writer you will become a better thinker, a better member of our society and ultimately a stronger person as a result. After graduation, I spent the last two years serving with City Year Cleveland as a Student Success Coach. In this role, I supported a Partner Teacher, in a 4th and 5th grade Science and Social Studies classroom for my first year and a 4th and 5th grade ELA and Math classroom for my second, through in-classroom assistance as well as additional tutoring outside of the classroom. These tutoring sessions were mostly small groups, however, I did have the opportunity to work with individual students often. I also facilitated extra preparation sessions for Ohio State Testing (OST) for my 4th- and 5th-grade students. I love to learn and I love to make learning fun for students, especially in ways that feel meaningful and interesting to them. In my free time, I like playing video games, practicing my Spanish on Duolingo, re-reading books from my childhood, and spending time with my two cats, Rhubarb and Strawberry.

Once I was a teacher, I realized that not only were there so many children with different educational needs, they all learned so differently! From that point on, I was determined to help each child find their love for learning and succeed That is my main teaching goal in life: That each child discovers their love for learning-whatever it may be!

Also, I have taught English with college students for nine years and instructed them pass national English tests, TOEFL, and IELTS for two and a half years. In 2013-2014, I was accepted by a Fulbright program and taught Chinese at Truman State University. The content of my teaching was Chinese writing, grammar, speaking, and reading. All through these years, I really love working with my students. I have great patience and enthusiasm to motivate them in learning languages. I feel great joy and accomplished when I see my students make progress and achieve their goals with my help. As for teaching, I am always punctual and plan lessons carefully beforehand.
