I'm currently an undergraduate at Cornell University studying Biology. During a semester long break from working towards my Bachelor in Arts, I tutored Math to young students at Best In Class Education Center in Fort Bend, Texas. Prior to that teaching experience, I also tutored SAT Math. I was recruited shortly after taking the SAT myself, so it was a fresh and exciting experience for me. I currently tutor a variety of academic and test preparation subjects. I'm passionate about helping students because I have had some difficulty with certain subjects myself, and I understand the frustration of what that is like. My experience with High School Physics made me an advocate of getting help when it's needed. After seeking out assistance, I went from consistently struggling with the subject to graduating as Best Physics Student. I'm a firm proponent of the idea that with enough help, anyone can improve as drastically as I did. In my spare time, I enjoy painting, running and exploring.

I want my students to feel comfortable in their classroom. I try to be as warm and welcoming as I can.Rapport building is important to me. I want the student to feel cared for and safe in this space, considering we never fully know what their life, school, or world pressure they're under is going to be in their daily lives, their tutoring sessions with me can be a time for fun and learning. There is no need for this to be something they dread, but instead, something they look forward to. My spaces are relaxed, safe, and still offering the most amount of learning I can give the students. I don't want any student in the group to feel left out or behind. I play to the strengths they show and give those the chance to shine.I use positive error correction and don't focus on mistakes for too long per session, because we can always revisit it as lessons go on.Learning should not be scary.Students should feel free to ask questions and be wrong, or right, or close. Fear of being wrong keeps a student from realizing how close they are to "getting it". Teaching is collaboration.Rewarding and positive correction are the best ways to encourage students to keep trying even after a mistake is made. I also think that due to the nature of learning over time, focusing too long on one mistake, especially in grammar at least, is not as conducive as saying, good practice, we will keep working on this, and going to the next point. In lots of events, the thing that confuses them may become clearer through more examples of it, or from a different concept allowing the difficult to manage concept to "click". Focusing on one issue a student isn't grasping causes more harm than good when it causes the child to become so frustrated that they simply shut down and stop trying to learn at all.Assessing learning styles after repeated issues with problems is necessary. If a student needs to sing, they can sing their reading assignment to hear the errors. They can tap their body as they learn the stronger math concepts. They can hear the directions read, they can read in silence and be asked comprehension questions. There is no need to stick to a formula that matches every student as there is no such thing.

I graduated magna cum laude from the University of Notre Dame in 2021. I received my Bachelor of Business Administration in Accountancy with a minor in Constitutional Studies. At Notre Dame, I worked as a Teaching Assistant for Measurement and Disclosure I, Ethics in Accounting, and Ethics in Sports. This fall, I will continue my education at the University of Chicago Law School.I have formal experience tutoring high-school students preparing for the SAT, ACT, and PSAT. I personally improved my SAT score by several hundred points, so I understand the hard work and diligence required for large score improvements. Although I am available to tutor a broad range of subjects, I am passionate about test preparation, Accountancy, and Algebra.I am very enthusiastic and have experience tutoring students who need an extra boost of encouragement or motivation. We will work hard and have fun in the process!

I'm a recent graduate of Northwestern University, a native New Yorker, and a recent addition to Varsity Tutors. I grew up in Westchester County, where I volunteered as an assistant creative writing teacher in high school. After high school, I moved to Evanston, Illinois for school. I studied a wide variety of subjects in college: from Medieval Literature to Buddhist Psychology. I moved back to New York after graduating to pursue a career in the arts. I currently work as a reader for the literary director of an Off-Broadway theatre company.

Even as a boy, there were three things I enjoyed above others: learning about the world, traveling with my family and working with other people to solve a problem or complete a project. Naturally, I also loved to play but even that often fit into these three areas.I'm not a youngster anymore, in fact I retired two years ago, but those loves have always been with me and have influenced me greatly. I have spent most of my professional life in schools where I could learn and help others learn as well and where I could work with hundreds of students over the years, each with unique personalities, strengths, interests and needs. I taught math, science and technology in middle and high schools and eventually became a high school principal and school director. But I was always a teacher first and always motivated by the individual students in my classes and schools. And what about my love of travel? After teaching for 3 years in Kansas, my wife and I became teachers in international schools, working in some of the best schools in the world with the children of diplomats and business professionals posted abroad. For nearly 30 years and in seven countries, we supported the learning of students, many of whom were American but many others who came from at least 50 other countries and whose home languages were diverse but who were learning in an American-curriculum, English language based school much like the best independent schools here in the U.S.So now I am happily retired here in Lawrence, enjoying being close to family but missing that special satisfaction of sharing in the learning and growth of my students. I have a wealth of strategies and tools to bring to the learning process that I hope can help me to help any learner.

I graduated from Stonehill College with degrees in mathematics, education, and computer science, as well as a teaching license. Since then, I've been teaching high school mathematics, although I'm passionate about a broad range of other subjects as well. I've never had the opportunity to tutor professionally before joining Varsity Tutors, but I'm excited to help students meet their education goals and spark their curiosity for learning. I love to be creative in everything I do, which shines through in my work, both professionally and in my personal creative endeavors and passion projects.

I am interested in bettering your educational experience in the Life Sciences, Chemistry, and Math! If you or your child is struggling with math or science courses or, perhaps, is preparing for a standardized test that requires application knowledge in these areas then I may be the guy for you! I am also interested in tutoring individuals who are working towards acceptance into a professional school that might have been out of school for a while.I have experience in private tutoring to elementary/middle school through college level students in math and the sciences and have helped many achieve goals that seemed unattainable. I have done this by establishing what areas of the subject are most troubling to students and focusing on them by using a variety of different sources. I have many textbooks and class notes, manuals, etc. that the students can use to have multiple viewpoints on the same subject.I also believe that a person learns best when they are able to recap and teach the subject to another individual. Therefore, I provide not only the details in a subject, but also a bigger picture motif that enables the student to make real-life connections with what they are learning and gives them enough understanding to be able to "teach" the topic. As someone who recently graduated Arizona State University with a B.S. in Microbiology, I understand the hardships that many students must face in large classroom learning environments and so I can relate to younger or more mature adult students. I have much experience in working in a lab setting where application and science work in tandem so I realize the necessity in flexibility and the importance in explaining the exceptions to the rules that we learn in science. My studies have led me to pursue a career in dentistry and I will be beginning dental school at UCLA in the fall so I am also an ideal candidate for more specialized test prep. such as for the DAT, OAT, PCAT, and MCAT. I am also available for ACT test prep. and I am flexible and open to new endeavors and experiences!
