Hi, I am a Ucsd physics major and have plenty of experience working with children between being a tutor and having worked in childcare. I love both learning and teaching so I am very excited for these tutoring opportunities! My philosophy has a lot to do with bringing the subject matter to life for the student and making sure they gain enthusiasm and confidence with the subject as they learn and work through the material. I am an actor, writer, and composer, with degrees in Theatre and English from Northwestern University. I have been passionate about literature and writing for as long as I can remember, and I use that passion to make critical reading, comprehension, and testing much easier and less daunting. I tutor English, Writing, and SAT Prep for Critical Reading and Writing. One of the things that make me stand out as a teacher is that I remember well what it's like to struggle in a subject. I was not good at math or science, so I understand what it is like to have difficulty grasping concepts. I can easily see how a student learns, and explain the concept in a manner in which the student can understand. Outside of teaching, I act in plays, write films, and I am currently composing a musical.

I recently graduated from University of Vermont with a double B.A. in Environmental Studies and Studio Art. I've been working with young people for over seven years in lots of different settings, but after starting college I realized how much I loved teaching. Most recently, I've been working with students in outdoor education and in other alternative learning settings, and am considering becoming a classroom teacher. My years of education experience have helped me develop some strategies for students who struggle in school and with tests.My favorite subjects to tutor are science, history, and English. I also work in general homework help, test prep, and organization skills. I like to tutor history and English especially, because being able to have a conversation about a subject really helps me learn. When I begin working with a student, I like to start out by getting to know them and their interests, and trying to pinpoint exactly where they are having trouble in a subject. By finding these leverage points, I can help them develop good habits and new strategies to create success in their schoolwork. I believe that everyone can be successful in school, but it's a matter of finding a custom plan for each individual. In my years of working with students, I know that everyone is different and what works for one student may not work for another. I aim to help my students develop the self-sufficiency, passion, and skills to help them accomplish their goals in school.When I'm not working with students, I love to be outside--hiking, biking, swimming, and kayaking are some of my favorite pastimes!

I am a Computer Science major currently studying at CSU Sacramento starting in Spring 2016. I studied Computer Science and Engineering for three years at Sierra College, taking math, science, and computer classes for the duration. Teaching is something that comes pretty easily to me - I've been a tutor for many people before, including friends, family, and classmates. Currently I am able to tutor in math, but soon I will be expanding that to include Computer Science, Chemistry, and Physics.My students tend to be pretty successful because I'm easy to get along with; I'm friendly and easygoing. I understand that school can be difficult and stressful - I've been there, and lived it, and been on both sides of the tutor/student relationship. I will move at your pace, and when you're having difficulty I can be the resource you need to make it much more manageable.

Friday through Sunday I would generally be free to tutor at any time; on Mondays, I am available during the day, and on Wednesdays, I am available from mid-afternoon (starting around three) through the evening. I am usually not available on Tuesdays or Thursdays. I would not need to take any month off.

I was recently accepted to medical school and will begin my MD education this fall. I have experience tutoring a broad range of subjects, including science, math, history, and English, but my personal interests lie within the sciences. I have tutored students with diverse classroom and educational needs. I find joy in tailoring specific learning strategies to each of my students to provide them with individualized and quality support. Tutoring is one of the things that I love to do. Watching a student have that "light bulb" moment is very fulfilling. I have had the privilege of working with students of all ages to help them improve their skills, and achieve success in their studies.
