I am a recent graduate from UCSD, with a B.S. in Human Biology. I was also recently accepted into dental school but decided to pursue medicine instead. I excelled in biology in both high school and college and have a passion for teaching. I spent time as a tutor in high school, and in college I was the Vice President Academic of the Pi Xi chapter of Tau Kappa Epsilon. In college my favorite subjects to teach and study were molecular biology as well as biochemistry. The depth and importance of these fields are vast, and I personally feel that understanding the concepts in these areas are particularly rewarding. I find the one of the most satisfying feelings as a teacher is when you see a student truly grasp a concept and understand the material. To realize this feeling, I focus on determining the students learning style and then focusing my lessons based on that learning style. I received my J.D. from Georgetown University Law Center and my B.A. from Cornell University. In college, I majored in Russian and French, and before law school, I spent two years teaching English as a Peace Corps Volunteer in Ukraine. In the years since, I have provided ESL tutoring to students with a diversity of backgrounds, ages, and nationalities. During law school, I taught full-length LSAT courses and provided private LSAT tutoring for a test preparation company. Indeed, I have a special place in my heart for the LSAT, and I think it's a test that becomes much more manageable with a lot of practice and a solid understanding of its mechanics. I just moved to the Bay Area from Alaska, where I clerked for a judge in Dillingham, a remote town accessible only by plane. Needless to say, I love the outdoors, and when I'm not working, I like to spend my time hiking, biking, or exploring Oakland with my dog, Cyrus.

For a visual learner, for instance, I would make sure to incorporate diagrams, pictures, and maps to best engage that student's learning potential. As for pace, some students can only take in so much information at one time and I would break down information in a way that is easiest for them to digest.2. mastery and dexterityPerhaps the most important skill any tutor and cultivate in a student is critical thinking. When a student finally comes to understand material, it is important that he or she is able to execute those concepts in different contexts and in different scenarios. When a student asks questions, I often times like to respond with questions myself that help them guide them to the correct deductions and conclusions themselves. This will also help ensure their ability to do well on their tests when they don't have a tutor around.3. vision and applicationA student's motivation to do well should be driven by the ability to see the application and relevance of the knowledge they are learning. Whether or not a subject seems to have any direct correlation with their future career, there are always key concepts that will either help them better function in society or at their future career. In the course of many trials and written briefs, I learned the importance of clear and concise oral and written communication. I am passionate about showing others how to have fun creating and shaping a persuasive and clear written product whether a school essay, a college application or as a life skill.
