Weve succeeded in mastering the material because we first focused on how we approached the subject; our approach will be based on your learning style. I graduated cum laude from the University of California, Irvine's school of Public Health Sciences in 2013. In addition to this, I was very involved around my college campus. I played five intramural sports, ran my own program in student government, which brought student teaching to UC Irvine, and served as president of my fraternity where I managed more than 60 members.I am a patient, kind-hearted, and intelligent person who truly values the importance of education in a young individual's life. I am currently applying to medical school and understand the plight of the modern student. I enjoy teaching and it gives me a lot of satisfaction to watch others learn and grow through their academics. I enjoy working with students of all ages from elementary to high school and even in some special cases, college sciences.During college, I tutored more than a dozen courses from start to finish. By using analogies, drawing diagrams, and asking the student questions, I was able to break through to students who were previously panicked about the possibility of failure. I believe in an "active" approach to tutoring which includes asking the student questions to not only get closer to a complicated answer, but to build the student's confidence. In addition, I always try to identify exactly where in the thinking process a student is struggling. After tackling this issue, I have been able to explain concepts and new ideas much more clearly and effectively.

I currently work as a math tutor at Mathnasium: The Math Learning Center, where I've been for the past year and a half. I've also tutored German privately and had 9 years working in church youth programs. My education has been through American River College and Sierra College, with my current degree being an AS in Mathematics for Transfer.I love to be curious about everything and to spark curiosity in others through teaching. My goal is not just to have you understand something, but to be able to have fun with it, be able to sit down, play around with the pieces, and by doing that learn something new about it. Learning is exploring: as a tutor I see myself as a guide, my job is to get you excited about the topic so that you begin to ask questions and piece together the picture yourself.My interests include board games, video games, science fiction/fantasy, fiction writing, language, ballroom dance, and most anything having to do with science.

A mantra for my own education is to retrieve knowledge through higher education that others can apply to change their lifestyle and improve their quality of life. This is one of the reasons I am a pre-health student with an aim for a career as a Physician's Assistant. Tutoring students is directly related to my mantra and passion to educate. I am very eager to apply the lessons learned through high school and two years at Cal to help a student excel in any material. Because both of my parents are teachers (one high school-level and one university-level), I have both observed their teaching methods in the classroom and have received their teaching. I have had the opportunity to communicate through difficult concepts with them, evaluate methods, and test approaches occasionally with my own tutees. I have taught the English language, a subject I am very familiar with, to primary school students in Japan as well as have explained how polarizability benefits SN2 nucleophiles to a university peer a few days after learning it. These varying degrees of familiarity in subject material have helped me to practice recalling material on the spot to then explain it to a student. These different experiences have trained me to meet each student where they are.My schedule of availability begins on July 18 and until mid-August I am free from Monday through Saturday beginning at 8 AM and Sunday after 1 PM. In college, I worked in our Academic Resource Center editing essays and leading study groups for struggling students. After college, I began tutoring language arts for elementary and middle school students. I help students improve their reading comprehension, phonetics, and grammar.My favorite subjects to tutor are language arts and American literature. Knowledge is power, as the saying goes, and knowledge comes through reading and writing. Literacy is the path to liberty, independence, and fulfillment and I want to help students succeed in their reading and writing to empower them to freedom. One of my favorite historical books is The Narrative of the Life of Fredrick Douglas. In his autobiography, Douglas, a former slave, describes how his masters kept him enslaved by making it illegal for slaves to learn to read and write. However, one of Douglas' kinder mistresses educated him, and this power enabled him to run away and eventually write his radical memoir that led to the abolition of slavery in America.Learning begins with questioning, so I ask my students lots of questions to invoke discussion that leads them to the right answers. I learn what my students are interested in, and I shape my lesson plans around their interests. I communicate with my students to make sure they are understanding and they feel like we are moving toward their goals. All people are smart and able, so even when students seem disinterested, I hold them to a high expectation. I care about my students as human beings in the pursuit of their dreams which means I will do my best always to teach them and respect their time. I am very patient, encouraging, and kind to my students because that is the environment I need when I am learning.In my spare time I enjoy hanging out with my friends, reading novels, creative writing, taking walks around the Rosebowl, singing, watching sunsets from the San Gabriel mountains, and eating breakfast in the morning sun with a strong cup of coffee.

Ever since middle school and my first dissection of a squid, I have enjoyed science! It's great to learn about a field of study where everyday is a new adventure of discovery.I have had experience tutoring incoming freshman at SDSU in Biology/Life Science and Chemistry. In my entry level Chemistry course, I received the highest score in my lab group for two semesters.I also had the opportunity to study abroad in Granada, Spain. I took four years of high school Spanish as well as an Intermediate course in college before I immersed myself in the language and culture of Espaa! I spent four months taking all of my courses in Spanish as well as living with a host family.Among my friends I am considered a great listener and counselor. I have a younger sister in the 7th grade and can understand the demands of today's youth in academics.In my free time, I love going to coffee shops to read and people watch and keeping active in a non-conventional way. I live near Mission Bay and love going to the park to ride around on my Scooter with friends!
